WINNING MULTIPLE Currys,

St Edmundsbury Retail Park, Bury St Edmunds

This store is located on a busy retail park, adjacent to the A14, where its nearest neighbours are DFS and Home Bargains.

I was looking to buy a washing machine. Inside the store, I began browsing and counted that there were 44 washing machines on display. After three minutes, I was approached by Kyle. I explained that I was looking for an energy efficient machine, with a large capacity. He got to work straightaway and showed me two 9KG models. The LG model (F4V709WTSE) was priced at £529.99; the Bosch model (WAU28R90G) was priced at £549.99. Kyle highlighted that the LG model is rated B

for energy, has a 1,400-spin speed and a 111-minute quick wash. Turning to the Bosch model, he said this is rated C for energy, has a 1,400-spin speed and a 120-minute quick wash. He added that washing machine installation

is charged at £25; recycling is priced at £20 and I could have my machine delivered free of charge within a week.

JOINT WINNING INDEPENDENT

Hughes, High Street, Newmarket

This store is located on the busy High Street, around 1.5 miles away from Newmarket’s famous racecourses. I was looking for a TV for my bedroom. Inside the store, I was greeted by Addam, [yes, spelt like that] who asked if I needed any help. He asked me if I knew the size of TV I’d be looking for. Addam showed me a 32-inch TV and I said that I wanted something a little bigger.

He then presented a 43-inch Samsung TV (QE43Q60), which was priced at £429. He explained that it was a smart TV, and is compatible with Bixby, Alexa and Google Assistant. He added that the Crystal 4K Processor upscales what you’re watching to give you the best 4K picture. Addam said that this was a 2021 model and was in short supply. He advised me that for £20, I could put a deposit down against the TV to secure the purchase. He demonstrated the picture quality of the TV, which was compelling.

JOINT WINNING INDEPENDENT

Glasswells, New- market Road, Bury St Edmunds

Glasswells is the largest independent home department store in East Anglia, with destination stores located in Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich, plus shops in Haverhill, Saffron Walden and a discount furniture outlet in Sudbury.

I was looking to get some co-ordinated small domestic appliances for my refurbished kitchen. In- store, I was greeted by Denise, who wasted no time in asking what sort of appliances I was looking for and if I had a colour scheme in mind. I said that I’d be looking for a kettle, toaster, mixer and blender and I was open to colour suggestions. She showed me two colours from Smeg, pastel blue and slate grey. I said that pastel blue would be perfect. In turn, Denise showed me the four appliances I had mentioned, which consisted of the variable temperature kettle (KLF04PBUK), the four-slot toaster (TSF03PBUK), the mixer (SMF02PBUK) and the blender (BLF01PBUK), priced at £149.95, £199.95, £449.95 and £179.95 respectively. Denise headed to a computer to check stock levels, and then confirmed that all items were available.

Addam did a great job his mention of the deposit and his demonstration were attempts to close the sale. The store was well presented.

Denise set out the options well and checking stock levels was an attempt to close the sale – especially when all items were available! The store looked exemplary.
