10 Celebs gather in London for 2022 TRIC Awards


The winners of the 2022 TRIC Awards – in partnership with Euronics – were announced at a star-studded ceremony in London last month.


T


he glamorous Awards event – hosted by TRIC President, Alex Jones – celebrates the nation’s favourite TV and radio programmes and personalities, all voted for by the public. Hundreds of famous faces filled The Great Room at Grosvenor House on Park Lane to find out who would walk away with a prestigious TRIC gong. There were 18 awards covering the whole broadcast industry. Ant & Dec were named as best TV Personalities, while Roman Kemp did the double – picking up the award for Best Radio Programme as well as Radio Personality. Elsewhere, in the New Drama category, the winner was It’s A Sin, and head judge from Strictly Come Dancing, Shirley Ballas, waltzed onto the stage to collect the trophy for Best Reality Programme. Emmerdale won Soap of the Year, Wimbledon on the BBC was named best Sports Programme, Gordon Gino and Fred: Go Greek. Mamma Mia! won in the Food Programme category, and winner of Daytime Programme was This Morning.


Other winners included Eamonn Holmes, who won best News Presenter; picking up the trophy for Multi-Channel News was the team from Good Morning Britain; siblings Pete and Sophie Sandiford were on stage to accept the Entertainment award for Gogglebox, and Best Soap Actor was Rosie Marcel, who plays Jac Naylor in Holby City. Meanwhile, in the hotly contested Drama Programme category, Line of Duty


beat off stiff competition to pick up the award, Factual Programme went to Paul O’Grady: For the Love of Dogs, The Chase won Best Game Show, and Podcast of the Year went to Sh*gged. Married. Annoyed with Chris and Rosie Ramsey. Finally, this year’s TRIC Special Award went to Clive Myrie for his work on BBC News and his coverage of the Ukraine war. The trophy was presented by Sir Trevor McDonald, although sadly Mr Myrie was not present as he’d been urgently called back into the newsroom!

Entertainment on the day came courtesy of boyband Blue, who performed their latest song, Haven’t Found You Yet, as well as their noughties classic, All Rise, which instantly had everyone on their feet! TRIC Chair, Daniel Todaro, said: “I’m so proud to be Chair and to have


opened the 53rd TRIC Awards, recognising the talent in broadcast media, raising money on their behalf for good causes. “This year’s Awards were bigger than ever with 1,100 guests all waiting in anticipation to find out who the winners were! “Over 65,000 people voted this year, casting almost one million votes,


making TRIC amongst the biggest TV industry awards covering TV, radio and online. As viewers and listeners increase audience share, so does the opportunity to develop categories and channels for brands associated with the industry.” This year’s TRIC Awards was the first time a sponsor had an in-partnership status. Pairing up with the Euronics buying group. Paul Tyler, CEO of Euronics in the UK, was there on the day and said it was a lovely opportunity to catch up with members and suppliers and to bring Euronics staff along.


“When the opportunity came about to sponsor the TRIC Awards, we knew we couldn’t turn it down,” he commented. “The event is a celebration of success within the broadcasting industries but also the important work with the charities and communities it supports. “The Awards are so well respected and you get a sense of how invested everyone is about what they stand for. It reflects perfectly the ethos of our Euronics agents; they have a deep connection and investment within their communities and they care about what they do. “It really was a fantastic event. We thoroughly enjoyed it! Roll on next year!”
