ANALYSIS: BUILT-IN Home Appliances

“Offering a sleek and streamlined solution

such as built-in appliances can help consumers optimise space in a room, which is essential when in a smaller kitchen,” explains Matthew Gynn, Product Marketing Manager for Hisense UK. “At the end of August, we launched the

BlackLine range which includes two built-in ovens with Steam and Pyrolytic cleaning functionality. “We also launched the BlackLine Compact Oven with a built-in microwave and a Warming Drawer into this collection for the ultimate built-in cooking set up in the kitchen. The brand new built-in solo microwave is the latest addition to the BlackLine collection. “In November we launched the built-in 3 Series laundry collection, featuring two washing machines in 7kg and 8kg and a washer-dryer. The launch of our first ever semi- built-in refrigerator range, Kitchen Fit, was also at the end of 2023, so we’ve had a lot of new product development as of late.”

Consumers want customisation Hotpoint’s Cooking Category Manager, Zimbini Nkoniera, believes that what makes built-in appliances so popular with consumers is their ability to offer a combination of style, thoughtful technology and customisation while optimising space in the kitchen.

He also highlights that consumers might prefer built-in appliances because of aesthetic they offer,

the space optimisation,

customisation, functionality and performance and the ease of cleaning that they provide. This year Hotpoint has launched various appliances

built-in that offer thoughtful

technology designed to prevent mishaps at home, including a dishwasher with a third rack with integrated spray jets. Elsewhere, Miele predicts that in 2024 kitchens will move away from the ‘maximalist’ look to something altogether more sleek, serene and subtle.

Smeg’s built-in offering includes ovens, induction hobs, dishwashers and refrigeration – with matching sinks and taps too.

“It is all about creating a calm, uncluttered space for cooking and dining”, this being the inspiration behind its Black Set, the brand says. This is something that retailers should be explaining to their customers as they make the decisions about their new kitchen layout. Tom Hopper, Category Manager for Kitchens at Miele GB, says: “Our new Obsidian Matte Black collection captures the essence of contemporary kitchen design, offering a sleek and modern edge whilst embracing the trend for darker cabinetry and matte finishes in 2024.”

Its Obsidian built-in collection is based on the

ArtLine handleless range from Miele featuring large M-Touch displays and Touch2Open technology. The Matte Black glass finish is sleek, streamlined, low maintenance and easy to clean with a simple solution of washing-up liquid and water with a microfibre cloth. Last but certainly not least, Smeg suggests its matte black 60cm SpeedwaveXL Galileo oven compliments the built-in aesthetic. And as an alternative to its Midnight Black and

Neptune Grey Linea options is its Stainless Steel Classic colour offering. For your customers who want a different

style in their kitchen, Smeg’s matte black range offers sophistication and will be a focal point in any kitchen. Combining traditional and microwave cooking, the SpeedwaveXL helps reduce cooking times by up to 40 per cent. It explains that

its built-in oven range is

popular due to its premium build, sophisticated design and multi-functional benefits. Its award-winning SpeedwaveXL ovens use intelligent features that are perfect for creating professional cooking results at home. Richard Mackey, Product Manager, says: “Consumers want

to have flexible design

options to suit their kitchen requirements. With the option to have integrated appliances, homeowners and designers can decide to hide their appliance for a cohesive kitchen design, and more importantly, saving worktop space.” This also showcases the beauty of built-in appliances and how they seamlessly fit into today’s modern kitchen environments.
