ERT AWARDS 2023

Sales Excellence Award Winner

Chris Jones, Wellingtons Electrical

26

“I am delighted to win the Sales Excellence Award and to receive recognition after being in the industry for over 35 years,” Chris Jones tells ERT. “Customer service has always been at the forefront of my working ethos. “The ERT Awards event is very prestigious within the industry, which makes it even more special. I enjoyed the whole day and many people that I have got to know over the years were keen to congratulate me on winning this award.” Mr Jones joined Wellingtons in 2011 and still holds the company

record for the largest sales day any member of staff has had – he sold an outstanding £35,000 worth of stock in one day! He believes he won this Sales Excellence Award because of his extensive product knowledge and high level of customer service. Wellingtons has over 2,000 five star customer reviews, and Mr Jones thanks those customers who have left reviews mentioning his name. “Customer service is what defines and separates Wellingtons from others

in electrical retail,” he goes on. “Although online is a massive growth area, it is hard for customers to differentiate between products when making selections, whereas instore we can talk through their requirements.” He explains that being an independent store – and also a member of the Euronics buying group – gives Wellingtons the buying power to be competitive on price and availability.

Best Industry Training Provider Winner Sony

Sponsored by T21 Group

Sony provides training across all its consumer product categories, offering a wide variety of learning opportunities from online videos and webinars to industry-leading, face-to-face training courses. The company uses cloud-based platforms to make it easy for colleagues to join from any mobile or PC device. It also has a dedicated “TV studio” set up at the company’s Weybridge HQ which allows the team to provide a TV show style experience with both live presenters and pre-recorded content. “We take pride in ensuring our partners receive best-in-class training

by offering a wide range of learning opportunities,” says Jason Clark, Head of Training at Sony UK. “To be acknowledged for this award proves that our efforts to deliver high quality training and solutions are appreciated. It’s a great feeling to be recognised by our retail partners. “It is important that the ERT Awards continues to celebrate innovative businesses and individuals within the consumer electronics space. The event supports the significance of the relationships between manufacturer and retailer and it’s a fantastic way to recognise the hard work put in by everyone within the industry.”

Mr Clark, who works alongside Sam Pilling and Dominic O’Brien as

part of the training team, says that Sony tries to offer a flexible approach to how its retail partners can access its training or content, recognising that in-person meetings are the most beneficial but that’s not always a convenient solution for everyone. “We are continuously learning and looking for new ways to engage with our retail partners in 2024,” he adds, “and we have some exciting ideas and plans, so watch this space!”
