SUSTAINABILITY PARTNERS ERT Awards
A certified carbon neutral event!
30
As one of the most energy-intensive industries, there is a big responsibility on electrical manufacturers and suppliers to source sustainable materials, as well as ensuring products are as energy efficient as possible. Sustainability is extremely high on the agenda of most companies
now, and electrical retailers are beginning to reflect this in the brands and products they push in their stores. As a key event in the industry’s calendar, it is important for us as the organiser of the ERT Awards to also play our part and reflect these changing values.
Charlotte Steadman, Event Manager of the ERT Awards, said that
right now it is vital that our industry promotes not only leading technical innovation but also products that meet consumers’ expectations of a greener future. “Brands and retailers are leading the way with this, but we feel that as the oldest and most established media platform in this industry, we also want to do our bit. We had an excellent response when we introduced this sustainability initiative last year, and of course we wanted to build on this further with more partners this year and more of an impact throughout the retail industry!” With the help and support of our amazing sustainability partners, AEG, AMDEA, Electrolux, The Appliance Recycling Group, and Zanussi, we can report that the ERT Awards 2023 was officially a Certified Carbon Neutral event.
The Chaiyaphum Wind Farm in Thailand
By working closely with carbon reduction engineers and The Grand Connaught Rooms (the venue for the event), we meticulously calculated all the carbon this event produces and offset this by supporting the Chaiyaphum Renewable Wind Power Project in Thailand. The project activity reduces an estimated 117,849 tCO2e emissions per year of greenhouse gases, thereby replacing 124,041.6 MWh/year of electricity with renewable energy. The project diversifies the mix of power plants connected to the Thailand electricity grid, which is mainly dominated by thermal/fossil-fuel-based power plants. During the current monitoring period, Chaiyaphum Wind Farm
Co. Ltd has conducted five training sessions to educate and build capacity. 65 individuals were successfully employed, contributing to the realisation of SDG 8, which aims to promote sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth,
full and
productive employment, and decent work for all.
