The winners of this year’s ERT Awards were announced during a prestigious ceremony at the Grand Connaught Rooms in London last month. The day also featured the return of the Turning Point
Live! Conference, with an impressive line-up of guest speakers, including independent electrical retailers, industry experts and high street champions. Bristol-based NE Appliances picked up the coveted
Turning Point Award. During lockdown MD Ben Gilks completely rebranded his business and opened a brand new destination store, and these game- changing activities impressed this year’s judges. Best Independent Domestic Appliances Retailer –
Large was awarded to Donaghy Bros in Northern Ireland, while Best Independent Domestic Appliances Retailer – Small went to Hosies in Scotland. In the category for Best Independent Consumer
Electronics Retailer – Large, Avensys picked up the trophy, and in Best Independent Consumer
Electronics Retailer – Small, Dorset-based Dacombes of Wimborne was the winner. Elsewhere, RDO Kitchens & Appliances received
the accolade for Best Independent Electrical Retailer Website – for the second year in a row! The trophy for the Sales Excellence Award this year
went to Julie Gray at Dacombes of Wimborne; the judges saw the evidence of her hard work and determination to make the store stand out for its unique products and services. Meanwhile, on the supplier side, Jordan Scott from
D.A.D/Montpellier received this year’s Sales Representative Award, and Best Supplier Customer Service went to Ruark Audio. The Training Provider Award was picked up by Miele GB. In the product categories, Best New Product –
Consumer Electronics went to Sony for the 2021 BRAVIA TV Line-up; Best New Product – Major Domestic Appliances was awarded to Montpellier for
CIH announces Paul Tyler as new Chief Exec
Paul Tyler has taken over as the new CEO of the CIH buying group, part of Euronics. This comes after it was announced in December that former Chief Exec, Guy Kinnell, had resigned. He only joined in September 2020. Mr Tyler has held the position of Channel Director,
Retail and CP at BSH Home Appliances Group for the past 11 years, including time spent as Sales Director for Siemens and Sales and Marketing Director for Gaggenau. Prior to this, he was at Miele for 21 years. “I am joining CIH at an exciting time,” Mr Tyler said.
“The company has enjoyed a record growth in sales and membership through 2021. This demonstrates the benefits of buying locally from an independent
electrical retailer and I am looking forward to building on this very strong CIH presence in the years ahead.” CIH Chairman, Steve Scogings, added: “Paul’s
industry knowledge and passion for independent retailers has always driven his career. We believe he will be an invaluable asset to the company.”
