year exclusive global license with RKW for the Funky brand to go into housewares and cookware. The Funky Toaster has been almost

“It really is an amazing feeling to win this award!”

“It really is an amazing feeling to win this award,” Joe Sillett, Co-Founder and CEO of The Funky Appliance Company tells ERT. “We’ve always said that our products had to stand out from the crowd and have their own bespoke tooling and unique look, as well as great functionality. “We think our Funky Toaster has

standout credentials but we knew from the list of finalists in our category

that we faced stiff competition from some seriously good products and brands – but to be named the winner, as voted for by electrical retailers, is incredibly satisfying!” The Funky Appliance Company was founded in 2016 by husband-and-wife team Joe and Sadie Sillett with three core products: the Funky Toaster, Funky Kettle and Funky Iron. The company partnered with SDA and

two-and-a-half years in the making and not only does it look great, with its iconic curves, but it works well too, actually toasting all of the bread. The final change to the product before it was signed off was that it could handle all types of bread. “It’s quite amazing how many toasters don’t do this,” comments Mr Sillett. Funky even received a letter from

Jonathan Warburton, Chairman of Warburton’s, confirming that its Toastie bread fits perfectly in the Funky Toaster! Adds Mr Sillett: “We felt this was a very important tick in the box! “We think the combination of the

toaster’s outstanding looks and its excellent functionality pushed people to vote for it and we couldn’t be happier that they did!” This year’s ERT Awards was a first for

The Funky Appliance company and the whole of the management team, alongside the senior team of RKW, attended the prestigious ceremony in London on 6 December. Mr Sillett continues: “We had an absolutely brilliant day! It was very well organised and a powerful networking event. It’s great to be able to meet other

people from the industry and also celebrate other brands’ successes! You simply can’t beat the physical event as opposed to the virtual event. “It was probably 20 times better

being live there with a great host and the atmosphere in the room than it would have been dialling in from the office via Zoom. It’s very important that the event continues to recognise the hard work of the industry as I believe this will drive people to want to achieve more and be even better next time!”
