“With our upcoming vacuum lines, we’ve made

sure to cover conveniences such as storage, value and technology,” continues Mr Foulstone. “One of our products even features voice assistance to instruct users when and how to care for their vacuum. The voice will indicate when to clean the filter and this will maximise the product lifespan and ensure customers use the item correctly.”

The Swan Dirt Master range Another great example is the BISSELL CrossWave

Cordless Max; it vacuums, mops and helps to dry floors simultaneously, for quicker cleaning around the home. It also works on hard floors – for cleaning up emergency spills and for regular cleaning – and for quickly refreshing area rugs too. Ms Lewis adds: “There may be some more

innovation coming in this category too later this year, so watch this space!” It goes without saying that large surface areas

are much easier to vacuum when you haven’t got plug sockets to consider. “Cordless vacuums are especially small, light and

helpful for quick tidy-ups,” says David Foulstone, Marketing Director at Swan Products, “perfect for nifty pre-visitor clean-ups on multiple surfaces as people start to host gatherings across all seasons.

Wet and dry British heritage brand, Ewbank, is continuing to expand its range in 2022 with its first true wet and dry vacuum. The WDV15 cleaner is lightweight and easily maneuverable at only 6kg, lending itself to all manner of cleaning jobs, from garages and work sheds, to deep-cleaning vehicles and evening mopping up large spills. This product combines some of the functionality

of Ewbank’s DV6 6 Litre Vacuum Cleaner, including the impressive extra-long eight-metre power cord and the interchangeable wet and dry floor head, two-in-one crevice nozzle, and foam filter – specifically designed for effectively picking up larger wet spillages. Elsewhere, with its new Boost CX1, Miele has

extended its bagless floorcare range to include a particularly compact, lightweight and agile model series – available to UK retailers in April. The compact design is mirrored by the strong

performance of the Boost, which was voted Red Dot Winner 2021 as well as for an iF Product Design

Award. No matter whether parquet, laminate or carpeting – thanks to tried-and-tested Vortex Technology, the powerful CX1 (above) excels on all types of flooring. The efficient Mono-Cyclone Technology deployed on this model achieves air velocities of over 100km/h to ensure that coarse dirt and fine dust is reliably whisked away. The filtration of the minutest particles is

guaranteed by the Hygiene Air filter integrated on the entry-level model, while the HEPA AirClean filter featuring on Cat & Dog and Parquet models achieves dust retention of more than 99.95 per cent. The CX1 comes in various versions – entry-level

model, Parquet model and Cat & Dog model. Having said all this, now consumers are not

spending quite as much time at home (compared to during lockdown), there has been a slight change in floorcare trends. Mr Drain believes that since lockdown ended

last year we have seen a slight downturn in floorcare and SDA appliance sales. “I think this is due to the fact that so many

people over purchased during lockdown that the demand is simply no longer there. The huge volume of pressure washer and steam products that were sold during lockdown was due to people keeping their homes as clean as possible to avoid dirt and germs. “However,” he goes on,

“this trend has dissipated slightly now as we head into Spring and our peak sales periods for cleaning products!”
