LG’s EVO panel

27

Bright up your life! It’s not just Q-OLED that’ll brighten shop floors this year. LG has confirmed a second generation of its EVO panel technology, first seen on last year’s G1 Gallery screen. This Evo evolution, using Brightness Boosting technology, will appear on 2022 Gallery screens. In the meantime, last year’s EVO panel is trickling down to 2022’s high- volume C2 models. Screen options continue to widen. LG will add

43- and 83-inch models to its ranges this year: the new LG G2 line will be available in 97-, 83-, 77-, 65- and 55-inch models, while the C2 series will

come in six screen sizes: 42-, 48-, 55-, 65-, 77- and 83-inches. LG’s all-new gen 5 Alpha 9 processor will also

have AI object enhancement, designed to better distinguish foreground and background elements, as well as an upgraded upscaling algorithm, to remove extraneous noise and improve HDR tone mapping.

Portable pictures One novel model to watch (literally) in 2022 is LG’s 27-inch StanbyME. Fully portable, and able to run for hours off a battery, it sounds ideal for streaming shows anywhere in the house that

might not easily have accommodated a TV before. The stand can be titled, swivelled, and rotated

in landscape and portrait mode. There’s HDMI connectivity and when in standby, the model doubles as a photo gallery viewer or digital clock. Philips continues to refine its AI engine for

2022, adding a new Ambient Intelligence feature to its 6th Gen P5 AI image engine. Making its debut on the brand’s upcoming OLED807 model (below), Ambient Intelligence will use the set’s light sensor to adjust brightness, gamma and colour in real time, compensating for changing lighting conditions in the viewing room.
