HENLEY AUDIO THE ERT INTERVIEW

24

It’s all about the theatre! Some stuff is meant to be hidden, whereas this stuff is meant to be proudly on display

Q: How would you say the audio sector has developed in recent years, and what does this mean for Henley? SP: The audio market has developed in such a way that people might listen to music on a smart speaker or through a basic pair of headphones, for example, but that doesn’t mean they don’t deserve something better elsewhere… And there is so much more available. A lot of Hi-Fi dealers now have more diverse

portfolios and they are pushing those in-store demos. At the higher end it’s a much longer consideration process, and when you spend thousands on new technology you want to show it off to your mates – it’s all about the theatre!

Some stuff is meant to be hidden, whereas this stuff is meant to be proudly on display. Like the traditional Klipsch range – the centre point of any room. NF: Vinyl is another great example as it’s really booming right now. And Henley is perfectly positioned to enjoy this upward trend. We had a ready-made range that has been adapted and extended all the way through, while other brands – with no history or pedigree in turntables – started to get involved… with varying results! We’re now in a more mature turntable market

and it’s massively about fashion, yet our opinion is you also have to have the engineering and audio credibility.

Henley’s demo room The Debut PRO, for instance, was released to

commemorate the 30th anniversary of Pro-Ject Audio; each component has been re-engineered for more high-end performance. The tonearm is Carbon-Aluminium for added damping and better electrical shielding, and it’s supplied with the new Pick-IT PRO moving magnet cartridge pre-installed and aligned as well. It is all about education. Someone might buy a

lovely new album and get home and play it on a cheap record player, so over the last few years we’ve been explaining why they should buy a better product. The new Automat range from Pro-Ject has just

launched – its first fully automatic turntable series and you cannot get much more convenient than this. You just press start and off it goes!
