CAMERA Centre UK, established in 1977, is a family run business with stores in Newport and Cardiff. After years of using a digital compact camera, I


wanted to buy a digital SLR. Inside the store, I was greeted by Simon, who asked if I needed any help. Simon asked what I’d be using the camera for and I said it would mainly be for personal use. He asked if I had a budget in mind and I said that I did not. He presented and demonstrated two cameras.


The first was a Sony model (Alpha 6000), which was priced at £499, although Simon mentioned that I could claim £50 cashback from Sony. He said this model comes with a 16-50mm lens and features a large Exmor APS-C image sensor with around 24.3 effective megapixels. The second model he presented was from Canon (200D), which was priced at £559, with £50 cashback. This model came with an 18- 55mm IS STM lens. Simon said that this model features a 24.2 megapixel sensor and a dual pixel CMOS AF system for greater definition.


John Lewis, The Hayes WINNING MULTIPLE


THIS four-floor store opened in October 2009 and features 170,000 square feet of selling space. I was looking to buy a coffee machine. Inside the


store, I started to browse the machines and was approached and greeted by Ella, who asked if she could help.


I said that I wanted to know more about the


Sage Creatista Plus Nespresso machine, which was priced at £449.95. Ella said that the machine is programmed for a number of coffee options, including ristretto, espresso, lungo, flat white, café latte, cappuccino and latte macchiato. She added that the price had dropped to £379 as the store was matching a competitor’s price. Ella asked if I’d like to try a coffee. She asked about


my coffee drinking preferences and selected the Cosi capsule. Using the dial on the machine, Ella selected cappuccino and the coffee making process started. She then started the milk process, explaining that there are five different milk temperature settings and the steam wand for milk frothing. She added that Nespresso capsules cost


between 28p and 33p and that I’d get a Nespresso club reward for £50 worth of coffee.

Radiocraft, Cowbridge Road East COMMENDED INDEPENDENT


THIS store is located on a busy shopping street in Canton, an inner-city district and community in the west of Cardiff. I was looking to buy a new large TV for my living room. Inside the store, I was greeted by Michael, who asked if I needed any help. Michael started his presentation by telling me that Oled is the best technology available and he said that unlike backlit TVs, these models offer true black.


He showed me two suitable products; the first model he presented was a Sony 55-inch Oled set (KD- 55AF9BU), which was priced at £2,999. Michael said that this was, in his opinion, the best Oled TV on the market. He demonstrated the set. The second model he presented was a 65-inch Sony set – in the AF8 range – as he did not have the 55-inch version on display. This was due in stock the following week and was priced at £1,899, Michael said.

Caerphilly Road THIS store, opened in the 1970s, is situated on the A469, which links Cardiff and Caerphilly with Rhymney and the Heads of the Valleys Road (A465). After years of buying our vacuum cleaner from supermarkets, I wanted to buy a more reliable cleaner. Inside the store, I was greeted by Julian, who asked if he could help me.


He started by asking about the flooring in my house and I said that I have a mixture of carpet and vinyl. He immediately recommended that I consider a Sebo model (X4 Pro), which was priced at £279. He highlighted that the Sebo model can automatically switch the brushes when moved from carpet to a different floor type.


The second model Julian presented was a bagless model from Miele (Blizzard), which was priced at £299.
