MDA sector. We were the first to apply Bluetooth technology to a range cooker with our Zeus app but we believe it will be rolled out across more products and sectors in 2019.” However, as political issues rumble on, the economic uncertainty poses a big challenge across the market, but Mr Dickson says “that as a British manufacturer it simply means we have to be flexible and ensure that we make the right products available to our customers”.

In its latest home appliance report, market research firm, Futuresource Consulting,
said 56 million smart
appliances will be shipped in 2019, up from 25 million in 2018. Next year, Beko plans to tap into this growth by launching a new model with a leading voice assistant.
“In the range cooker market, where multi-tasking
and greater cooking capacity are prevailing trends, multiple ovens and hobs offer increased capacity, which allows cooks to juggle several dishes at once. Our love of food in the UK shows no sign of slowing down in 2019, with more people than ever before now interested in cooking and entertaining at home, there is an increased demand for appliances that make social feasting easier.”
Remote control 2018 saw a rapid increase in connected appliances within the home and it doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon. Smeg’s smart range – known as SmegConnect, launching next year, will offer connected technology and appeal to an ever- increasing demand for the latest technology and innovations within the kitchen.
The range will begin with a connected wine

connecting the abundant smart, connected appliances together. Marco Signa, Connectivity Strategy Sr. Manager, Whirlpool EMEA, suggests that an ecosystem of connected appliances, which work together and feed off of each other, is the ultimate step in evolution of the smart home. Whirlpool
has
developed IFTTT compatibility for its connected appliances. This is a powerful cloud-based web- service that makes it possible for everyday users to connect a wide range of apps, services and products, helping to forge links between digital services and allowing them to work together efficiently. Whirlpool is one of the first appliance manufacturers in Europe to launch appliances that can ‘talk’ to other apps and connected products; not only this but the company is also taking the connectivity of its 6TH SENSE Live app to the next level, allowing users to create their own ‘recipies’. Mr Signa explains: “Imagine setting your
Whirlpool fridge to a low energy vacation mode, and having it automatically tell your thermostat to turn down the heating. Or imagine that your home’s solar energy system tells your washing machine to start a cycle when it is collecting enough power on a sunny day. When you start to link together different services and products, the combinations are limitless and encompass everything from essential ways to automate daily chores to relatively small things that make the connected home feel more personal, fun and responsive.” A practical approach to connectivity can unlock new benefits, such as discovering recipes, customising one’s appliance for fast access to favourite settings and giving users tips and guidance on using features. Whirlpool’s connected appliances have recently been enhanced with the addition of Google Assistant, which offers hands-free voice interaction. At EuroCucina, the manufacturer demonstrated this capability with a new built-in
