Parker Building Supplies was founded in 1984, and primarily serves trade customers with a core offering of heavyside building materials plus a range of ancillary product lines including, joinery and architectural ironmongery. There is also a growing plumbing and heating offer.
Chandlers Building Supplies, based in Ringmer, has branches across the South East of England. It offers over 20,000 individual product lines to customers working on all construction and refurbishment projects. Chandlers has a substantial fleet of delivery vehicles ranging from crane-off load brick lorries down to small vans and pick-ups. As well as the building supplies branches, Chandlers has four specialist roofing supplies branches in Halesowen, Coventry, Rainham and Scrubs Lane, London. It also has dedicated kitchen showrooms at Petworth and Chertsey and a two-storey bathroom showroom at the branch in Lewes.
The new enlarged company has 37 branches operating from the Midlands to the South East, with combined revenues of £180 million and over 750 employees. With no overlap in branch

locations and a highly complementary product range, combination of the Parkers and Chandlers businesses is strategically important, offering both companies the opportunity for geographic expansion and to extend their product ranges. It was prompted by the existing shareholders’ desire to take the business to the next level. Andrew Cope, Chandlers’ managing director has joined the board of the new combined company as a director. Parkers and Chandlers were heavyweight players in two different indepdent merchant buying groups, NBG and Fortis. As of the beginning of this year, both are now partners in NBG.
