JT ATKINSON IS a family owned independent Builders’ merchant established over 150 years ago. The Atkinson family can trace its roots back to Cumbria when in 1860, James Atkinson left the family watermill at Little Salkeld, near Penrith, to establish a roofing business in Darlington. The business developed into a slate merchant and then into a builders merchant in the early 1900’s.
Today the business is run by the 6th and 7th generation of the Atkinson family
It has 25 branches - six trading as Builders Supply (Kendal) and one as Hathaway Timber - across Tyne and Wear, Durham, Teesside, North Yorkshire and Cumbria,

JT DOVE IS a builders and plumbers merchant in the north east and the last year has seen the company bedding down the branches it opened in the previous few years. In 2013 a new building materials branch at Galashiels was followed by a building materials and plumbing & heating implant at Hetton as well as a plumbing & heating branch added to the existing building materials branch at Marske. In 2014 it opened a new building materials branch and plumbing & heating implant at Alnwick. Early 2016 saw a new building materials branch and plumbing & heating implant at Darlington.
