TOOLS AND GADGETS

A one of a kind bar tool D

Housewares Magazine spoke to a manufacturer and distributor of bar tools about how it is enhancing the beverage experience.

raft Top has created a new category for barware, that’s according to Shawn Harlan, chief marketing officer of Draft Top. Draft Top found a solution to the problem of safely removing the tops of

beverage cans. “As crazy as it sounds, our story began in 2000 when our president and founder, Armand Ferranti, was in flight school and was properly educated on how to use his canine teeth to remove the top of a beer can. 11 years later, Armand was amongst his friends drinking a beer, and one of his friends asked him to open a bottle of wine using the foil cutter. A light bulb went off in his inventor mind and he thought there must be a way to remove the top of can without using your teeth. After sketching out ideas, he turned his vision into a reality. Like many inventors, Armand went through a storm of revisions to create what you know today as Draft Top,” says Harlan. Since the idea for Draft Top was established, the business has created a product line which caters directly to the consumer. “Drinking from cans is indisputably sub-par when compared to bottles or glasses and this is due to sensory perception science. We believe consumers are looking for something new and exciting that elevates their drinking experience. Draft Top’s target consumer is anyone who drinks from a can. Whether they enjoy a craft beer, seltzer or canned coffee, Draft Top allows them to fully enjoy the experience from drinking

from a can without having to pour into a glass or waste a plastic cup. Our current portfolio includes two versions of the Draft Top (hand) bar tool. We currently stock our 3.0 which is our older version and the Draft Top LIFT which comes in two different colours with new colours set to be launched in the coming months,” adds Harlan. Draft Top’s newest product, the LIFT, lifts and removes the lid from any canned beverage leaving a smooth rim and open can to elevate the overall beverage experience. Draft Top LIFT is the world’s first bar tool designed to remove the top of beverage cans, providing a complete sensory perception of sight, smell, and taste. The tool allows consumers to enjoy the full aroma and smooth

pour of their favourite beverage. The business will continue to evolve its offering as Harlan says “We

have sold close to 500,000 units in over 50 countries. Our customers are loyal and get behind every product we launch. We believe the response has been excellent. We will be launching the Pro Tool, our commercial version, in Q4. The Pro Tool will be the size of a coffee maker and is designed to be used in restaurants, bars, stadiums and in the home. “
