RAINY DAY TRUST FEATURE RAINY DAY TRUST

To commemorate its 180th anniversary, which took place on March 24, the Rainy Day Trust is strengthening its support for those in need through fundraising activities, supplies to cope with the ongoing energy crisis, and more.

O

n the topic of the charity’s milestone 180th anniversary year, Rainy Day Trust founder Bryan Clover said “We want this year to be the biggest on record, helping as many people as possible, outstripping even the last couple of years which have been incredibly busy.

The announcement last month of a mere 0.2% fall in the headline inflation rate shows very clearly that prices are still causing a massive amount of worry for people across the country including your colleagues.” To continue its charitable efforts, the Rainy Day Trust has organised

a fundraising hike with opportunities available for the industry. Clover, who will be tackling the hike against the clock, said “Firstly, we are here for the people that you work with that may be struggling. It’s a simple equation – the more people know that we exist means we can help more people. Secondly, we are seeking your business’ support so that we can keep going. Since early 2020 and the lockdowns from Covid-19 we have made a loss every year. 2022 was no exception as we spent over £70,000 more helping people than we brought in. We had prudently built reserves and those are now dwindling fast. As part of our 180th Anniversary activity I will be hiking 6 x 30 mile half ultras against the clock. We are looking for corporate sponsors either for an individual 30 miler or for the whole lot. We will be talking about our sponsors throughout the training period and in the hikes themselves, getting your brand out there. We are looking for £500 for an individual hike or £2,000 for all six.”

s the cost-of-living crisis continues to pinch consumer incomes, businesses are having to adapt to a shift in buying habits.

Each pack contains: • LED lightbulbs

• One or two eco shower heads • Packs of radiator reflectors

“We only list regular screw or bayonet fit bulbs on the form but can also supply downlighters (like the GU16) but applicants need to know that the transformers above the bulbs can handle an LED bulb otherwise they will flicker constantly. We can also send out letter box brushes and other insulation items if applicants need them, they just need to list them on the form. The programme is all about our ‘prevention is better than cure’ agenda,” added Clover.

Arun Bhatoye, head of marketing at Hisense UK, highlights the support businesses can provide consumers amidst the challenging cost-of-living crisis. The proposed dates for the hike are:

• 13 May Jurassic Ultra Challenge • 10 Jun

3 Castle walk - Windsor to Winchester • 24 Jun

Cotswold Ultra Challenge

Bolstering its support for the industry, the Rainy Day Trust has also issued ‘Let’s Save Energy’ packs following the announcement of the likely rise in utility bills in April. Clover said: “Now seemed like an opportune time to remind everyone about our ‘Let’s Save Energy’ packs that your colleagues can apply for. Anyone that is struggling with their energy bills can take advantage of the packs which combined should reduce annual bills by £250-300 a year, every year.”

Consumers are looking for energy-efficient, cost-efficient products, and it is the responsibility of the business to make their customers aware of which products fit these criteria. Arun Bhatoye, head of marketing at Hisense UK, says “Here at Hisense, we have always championed manufacturing products that are affordable yet high- quality, and this is more important than ever as we head towards the winter months amidst a national cost-of-living crisis. Right now, it is our number one priority to help the nation to understand how to best use their appliances to continue with their necessary household chores and reduce their bills as much as possible.” Founded over 50 years ago, Hisense is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of televisions and home appliances. Hisense has a core range of televisions and cooling appliances alongside a portfolio of cooking and laundry products featuring hobs, hoods, ovens, dishwashers and washing machines. Educating the consumer Bhatoye says “As energy bills soar to an all-time high, monitoring our gas and electricity usage has never been more important, and so consumers are looking for alternative solutions to cut down on their energy usage – and in turn, their energy bills. This doesn’t mean that consumers aren’t buying, but the path to purchase is much more considered. Customers

Combat the Crisis A

look to invest in appliances that achieve the best results whilst using the least amount of energy, to help with cutting down bills. During the cost-of-living crisis, retailers and suppliers should be looking at ways in which they can help educate and inform their customers on the best appliances for their individual needs, and support them as much as possible to find the most cost-effective solution. Here at Hisense, energy efficiency has played a large role in product development as we look to new launches in future years. “It’s likely that any appliance which doesn’t need to be switched on for a long amount of time during usage, for example a microwave or toaster is the most efficient small appliance, as it only uses energy whilst it is switched on. It’s also very much dependent on usage – every household is different and has different needs. For example, single-person households may have a large capacity oven and batch cook to make the most of their oven being turned on, whilst larger families might opt for a larger capacity washing machine to bundle loads together. Generally speaking, tumble dryers tend to be the most expensive appliance to run, so switching up this part of your laundry routine to drying your clothes on a traditional clothes horse or drying rack is an easy way to help cut down your energy bills. Of course, defining what the most expensive appliance to run will ultimately come down to usage habits. If you have a larger household, it’s likely to be more cost-effective to invest in a larger capacity washing machine, so that you can fit more clothes in one load,
