LINEVU – LIQUID CARRYOVER DETECTION IN PIPELINES USING IMAGE PROCESSING

A

ddressing liquid carryover in gas processing is critical for safety and efficiency. Traditional monitoring falls short, often yielding inaccurate ‘dry gas’ readings despite the presence of liquids. This affects various stakeholders within the industry, including asset managers and flow assurance engineers. Without effective monitoring, phase separation failures result in compromised measurements, like flow and calorific value, costing billions annually.

Process Vision’s LineVu revolutionises this landscape by providing real-time imaging inside high-pressure gas pipelines. For the first time, operators can directly observe the internal conditions, such as mist or stratified liquid flows, thereby questioning existing assumptions. This innovative system can be retrofitted vertically on pipelines, capturing plan views that show liquid streams, solids, and mist flows. Coupled with machine learning, LineVu sets automated alarms based on image metadata, providing deeper incident understanding.

LineVu’s impact is multifaceted: it can enhance production, improve Natural Gas Liquid (NGL) recovery, reduce metering errors and lower maintenance costs. As a pioneering tool, LineVu brings new metrics and insight to gas processing, offering a comprehensive insight and data-driven process control, benefitting Transmission System Operators (TSOs) and the industry at large.
