FRANCHISE

Life A MAN WITH A PLAN!

When Joe Guishard opened his Right at Home business, he joked that he'd one day be the most successful entrepreneur in the network…

…13 years on, Joe is the first Right at Home franchisee to own three territories and generate £5million in revenue, to which he credits team spirit, timing, and the backing of a supportive network.

Early days Former police officer Joe served with his local constabulary for six years before making the decision to switch careers. His grandmother was suffering with vascular dementia and after seeing the poor care she received, he vowed to find a way to help other families avoid similar trauma. Joe established Right at Home Cardiff in

October 2012 – his dream to offer exceptional quality care finally realised. But the growth journey took him down an unexpected route. “We actually delivered our first care hours in Newport, an unoccupied neighbouring territory where my first manager had several key contacts. We kept putting the groundwork into Cardiff of course and, after 18 months, Right at Home offered me the opportunity to buy the Newport territory, and so we continued to grow the business."

Expanding in the Vale The growth in Newport diverted Joe’s original plan to open a second branch in the Vale of Glamorgan territory, which went on to be acquired by a husband- and-wife team in 2014. “That limited my opportunities for further expansion,” explains Joe, who focused instead on growing Cardiff & Newport. Six years later however, his neighbours decided to relocate and Joe seized the opportunity .

Record growth Joe persuaded former manager Holly Jones to come back as Operations Director, and two years on, they have seen The Vale office achieve a phenomenal turnaround, growing to more than £1.5million in revenue. “We were able to go in and make some big differences," confirms Joe. "Because we’d been that size before, we knew what it

needed to take it to the next level.” Under Joe and Holly’s leadership the three

territories smashed the £5million annualised revenue milestone in September: a first for the network. Regards that early ambitious "most

successful" statement, Joe admits that, despite his competitive nature and strong work ethic, he could never have imagined this level of success and credits the support of the Right at Home National Office with helping him and his team achieve it. “As a care business, they have a wealth

of knowledge and expertise. Tapping into this has been immensely beneficial at each stage of my business development.” But his main driver remains the memory of his grandmother: “She would be so proud – not only of me, but the fact that clients similar to herself are able to receive the exceptional level of care they deserve.”
