• BE PRESENT Jen Chapman-Boffi n from Cinder hosted an online Franchising Wellness Retreat for members to take a day out to really focus on mental health. Attendees spent the day listening to expert speakers including a session on neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to adapt and form new pathways and breathwork demonstrating how something as simple as intentional breathing can act as a tool for emotional balance and mental clarity.

• GIVE Finally, on GIVE day, sponsored by Barclays, franchisors and their teams committed to doing something for charity. Our very own James Fay-Sedgwick joined sponsors Barclays painting chairs, tables and rails for the Retail Trust, who care for and protect the lives of people working in retail, through access to career-changing learning and development; emotional, physical and fi nancial wellbeing services, and supported-living estates.

Successful week A fi rst of its kind, National Franchise Week was deemed to have been a huge success, with testimonials praising the opportunity it gave teams to stop and take stock during a usually very busy working week.

National Franchise Wellbeing Survey We know franchising is a successful sector, our survey results demonstrate that admirably – but what we’ve lacked, until now, is an overview of the mental health of the people involved in our sector. To explore this, we partnered with mental health and wellbeing consultant Cinder to run the very fi rst National Franchise Wellbeing Survey. The results offered the industry a fi rst look into the health and happiness of the sector, helping us recognise challenges and potentially adapt business models, to ensure people are functioning at their optimum, making certain the future holds a healthy and stable outlook for the sector in years to come. The results, downloadable from the Cinder , showed that although there is still

Exciting plans! We have some groundbreaking academic collaborations in the pipeline that we’re excited to share with you soon. We recognise that to educate the next generation of franchisees, we need to reach them earlier. These are truly exciting activities, and we can’t wait to share more soon.

Franchising in the history books One thing we can tell you is that we are working with Dr Amy Edwards from Bristol University who is doing a study on women’s employment from the 1960s to 2000. Franchising, it transpires, gave women access to self-employment long before it became mainstream – and the sector, and the franchisees who she is now interviewing, will be featured in the national archives at Bristol University and hopefully in her book and maybe even a fi lm. Fingers crossed.

3 & 4 October 2025 – The National Franchise Exhibition We hope you have a fantastic summer. Mark your diary and join us at the NEC for the National Franchise Exhibition on 3 and 4 October 2025. With free entry, it’s the ideal place to meet in person with franchisors and industry experts to help you with your research process. The BFA team will be on our stand to answer any questions you may have so please come and visit us while you are there. 
