ost businesses would be grateful to operate in a market where demand for their services was
consistently high, even if that demand outstripped their ability to supply. Not so, however, within the care sector where failure to supply staff directly impacts the lives of others, possibly putting those lives at risk. Cristina Grancea and Silviu Pop, co-founders of SylvianCare, a provider of domiciliary care staff, recognised that they would need to take steps to alleviate the shortage of quality care staff available to both their own operation as well as their franchisee’s businesses. “Following Brexit, care, like many
industries saw a significant nuber of people return to their native countries,” says Cristina. “As a business we faced the challenge of continuing to care for our clients with a decreasing number of care workers available." Adds Silviu, “We knew that we had
to look outside the UK and that Europe would no longer be the main source for staff, as it had been previously.” The brother-and-sister team of Silviu,
whose background is nursing, and Cristina, a social worker, knew from experience those countries that not only had a history of providing quality care staff, but had a ‘culture’ where caring for others was valued. “We applied for, and were granted, a sponsor licence by the oe ffice and assisted our franchisees to also gain licences, allowing us as a network, to employ care staff from overseas,” added Cristina.

they haven’t solved the shortage of care staff in the UK but they have ensured the continuity of care within their network.
