Established in 1977, the bfa’s aim is to become the leading educator of franchising. Promoting ethical franchising practice and helping potential franchisees recognise viable business format franchise opportunities are core to this education. The bfa membership is built on a standards-based framework and franchisors wishing to become members must meet specic criteria, evidencing that their franchise represents and is committed to developing a fair and ethical opportunity. The association is renowned worldwide for its franchising standards, leading the innovation most recently with a UK developer category to support brands entering the UK. The bfa is a current active member of both the World Franchise Council, of which it was founder, and the European Franchise Federation, which discussions focus on industry trends, opportunities and legislative threats.
