What the future holds W

elcome to a new decade. I don’t know about you, but this feels more reflective,

contemplative and calm than other new years… something of the ‘back-to- business’ about it. We may not yet know what’s in store for the rest of the year, but the general vibe is one of togetherness, regardless of what it may bring. Speaking of the future, I’ve been researching the predicted big trends for the next decade and here’s what we can apparently expect: green shame, plant-meat hybrids, psychedelic

medicine, human upgrades, super flours, vintage maximalism, space fashion, elevated pancakes, ‘happy face’, doe-eyed laser surgery, red liquid facelifts, tactile experiences, statement tablescapes and the acceleration of the splinternet. Confused? Me too. I much prefer the reliable, enduring things in life, such as a sound business model, tried-and-tested methods and the support of a company network. Franchising, in other words. This issue carries the show guide to

The British & International Franchise Exhibition held at Olympia London on 31 January and 1 February. To check out the time-proven durability of the franchise

system, go to page 33 to embark on your research. The exhibitors at the event are all bfa-accredited, providing you with reassurance that you are meeting with businesses that operate to a set of ethical standards and offer a genuine business franchise format. Now that is something you can rely on. Don’t just take my word for it – on pages 21 to 30 there are case studies galore in our 'New Year New Start' feature. Franchisees from a variety of industries share insights on how they changed their lives and, in some cases, their communities through franchising. Make this the year you join them! l
