New year, new start

X-Press Legal Services Karen and Ben Wheeler

Ben and Karen Wheeler bought X-Press Legal Services Derbyshire and Nottingham in 2019 following successful careers in education and are now applying their exacting standards to their new business.

What attracted you to X-Press? We were made aware of X-Press by a friend who was impressed with the franchise business model. We knew that we were ready for a new career but were concerned about setting up a new business from scratch. The X-Press service plays a vital part in the property-buying process, so we knew that this meant demand in the region would be high. Having come from quite different

educational backgrounds, entering the world of business was daunting at rst. owever, we uickly found that our skills were incredibly transferable, and we are passionate about delivering ‘top marks’ for our law rm clients who rely on us to support them with conveyancing-related products.

How is the business going so far? We’re already cultivating relationships with a number of local solicitors and licensed conveyancers, What we’re nding so far is that people appreciate having someone they can speak to and who they can rely on to produce their property searches and reports – dare I say good old-fashioned service. It’s great to be delivering highly

valued conveyancing innovation to our local law rms, helping them to support their clients. We’re thrilled to have gone into business together and we take great pride in the work we do; our drive and determination has always been to be the best at what we take on! As well as integrating ourselves into the wider business communities of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, we also provide regular opportunities for the conveyancing sector to network and nd out about the latest changes to the law at CPD-accredited events we arrange throughout the region.

What was the initial training and support like? We attended an intensive three-week training course at head office where we were able to shadow an existing franchise owner. We’ve been delighted with the level

of ongoing support and training, both fro head office and fro the networ of existing franchisees. Being part of a highly valued and respected company is fantastic, as is having access to a suite of professional services, both from head office and eternal suppliers to help us make our business a success.

What qualities do franchisees need to be successful in your sector? You don’t need legal experience or ualifications but you will be woring with law firs in the legal sector which means that you need to work in a structured and compliant way. We use the most up-to-date technology to support our search work with law firs but if you lie us have a meticulous nature and attention to detail, then they will really help to make you a successful franchisee.
