CEO PIP WILKINS ON WHY THE BFA CHAMPIONS APPRENTICES HIP S

“If the 2018 bfa NatWest Franchise Survey has taught us anything, it’s that there is a massive entrepreneurial hunger. It’s an amazing time to be in this industry. “One result that makes me very

proud is that 18 per cent of all franchisees are now under 30. This feels like a huge accomplishment, as it is imperative that we broaden options for younger people with less experience and resources to be able carry out their dreams of owning and operating a business. “But it’s not just through becoming

franchisees that young people can thrive in franchising. Businesses can pave the way for younger people to

enter the working world and learn valuable skills by taking on apprentices. The franchising industry employs 710,000 people, and most of the people involved are working at the coalface. For many youngsters who are leaving school and looking towards that next step in life, it can be hard to decide which path is the right one, with many believing that heading off to university is the only way to achieve a successful career. However, it’s certainly not for everyone, and learning practical skills at a young age can set you up for life. “Franchising is a fascinating industry,

one that is continuing to diversify and evolve. The bfa is excited to help young people get a foot on the career ladder, fi nd a business they are passionate about, and maybe even start a journey in franchising.”
