Inside Story

Mark Holland

“Bodystreet’s Training Academy provides a host of courses, seminars and conferences for you to develop and hone skills throughout your career”

not need to be a qualified personal trainer, a keen interest in sport and fitness is an advantage. We are also looking for people who recognise the value of great customer service – and can deliver it.

What support do franchisees receive? As you would expect from any brand serious about its franchisees’ success, at Bodystreet we consider the support and coaching we provide for our network to be our highest priority. Support starts even before you become a Bodystreet franchisee; help is available to locate a suitable property, recruit the right team members, source builders and so on. Once you become a franchisee,

Bodystreet will go to all necessary lengths to support your launch: Startschulung (‘start training’) is an intensive, one-week, classroom-based training programme where you learn about Bodystreet, our history, the system and how to run a successful Bodystreet franchise.

Once completed, you will then have a second week of training in a training studio – Hospitation (‘orientation’). Here, you take the theory from Startschulung and put it

into practice working in a studio, eventually delivering sessions to clients. One of our area managers will be on hand to support your opening week, making sure your launch is successful and your business grows in line with your plan. Support and training doesn’t stop at launch. Bodystreet’s Training Academy provides a host of training courses, seminars and conferences for you, and your team, to develop and hone skills throughout your Bodystreet career. An area manager will visit regularly to discuss your goals and plans and to coach you on how to achieve those objectives.

Is there room for more franchisees? Bodystreet has almost 300 studios in Germany and given the similarity of population type and size in the UK, we see a huge opportunity for franchisees to join us – especially those seeking multi-unit ownership.

What sort of person do you think would suit a Bodystreet franchise? Bodystreet is a fitness brand and as such we are seeking franchisees who have a passion for fitness and sport

coupled with a desire to help others achieve their goals. Bodystreet’s model isn’t about signing up thousands of members who rarely – or never – come to work out. The focus is on helping a few hundred people, normally ‘time poor’, find 20 minutes a week to get themselves back into shape, reduce body fat and even build muscle. So a background in such sectors as hospitality, sales and customer service would be suitable and make good experience for anyone operating a Bodystreet studio.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of investing in their first franchise?

Begin with the end in mind. Why are you looking at this, or any other business? What are you looking to achieve in the immediate, medium, and long term? Do you have an ultimate goal in terms of valuation of your business? Once you have answered these questions consider the following: does this business you are looking at allow you to achieve these things? And if it does, can you see yourself in this industry or sector that the business
