Not your average...
n order to gauge the day-to-day realities of running a franchise, we’ll often ask franchisees to describe their typical day. Almost without exception, they’ll reply: “But, there’s no such thing as a typical day!” or “No two days are the same!”
However, it’s still a question worth asking, since most franchisees will then go on to share insights into the kind of working day they might have, the different roles and tasks they may find themselves carrying out and how their business and new lifestyle fits in around their family and home life. But would they describe it as an ‘average’ or ‘typical day’? Far from it, say franchisees, predictable it is not.
You may find a thing or to you wouldn’t have predicted in this issue, too. For instance, did you know that in order to set up in business, you don’t need to be rolling in cash from the start? There are franchises available from under £10,000 investment required. There’s more myth-busting about the cost of being your own boss, in the feature on running a low-cost franchise over pages 23 to 31.
Anything but average, we’re all about extremes in this issue, as we go from low
cost to high level in a mere few pages. Turn to page 32 if you’ve serious funds at your disposal to read all about taking on a weighty investment opportunity. But whether high or low, it’s the lifestyle changes and general satisfaction of being self-employed – yet supported by head office – that franchisees report are the stand-out major benefits. Of course, it’s not all ‘expect the unexpected’ because there are a handful of certainties you can rely on when it comes to franchising. You get support from your franchisor, the security of a brand name, a tried-and-tested business model and a protected territory, but also shared expertise from a network of fellow franchisees.
Even if you feel like an average Joe – with franchising, you’re about to embark on an exceptional journey.
