Corito Sostenible es una plataforma de iniciativas y even- tos únicos, divertidos y de bajo impacto ambiental que conectan el turismo sostenible, las iniciativas ecológicas, las diferentes propuestas artesanales y artísticas locales. Propone educar sobre el cuidado del medio ambiente, los beneficios de desarrollar una economía circular y el uso de métodos naturales para el cuidado del cuerpo, la mente y el alma.
Su misión es motivar a las personas a considerar una vida más sostenible, y generar conciencia a través de eventos de bajo impacto ambiental, promoviendo un mayor cuida- do de nuestro entorno/planeta.
Corito Sostenible fue fundado durante la pandemia por un grupo de 4 jóvenes que viven en la ciudad surfera de Cab- arete en la costa norte de República Dominicana Decidieron crear la plataforma porque se dieron cuen- ta que la pandemia había empezado a obtener un cam- bio positivo en la mentalidad general hacia una vida más sostenible, impulsando cada vez más iniciativas que pro- ponían soluciones ecológicas y de fuentes locales a la cri- sis climática. Pero también había afectado principalmente a músicos, artistas y artesanos de todo el mundo, que necesitaban nuevamente el espacio que merecen para poder expresarse sin ser confinados.
En mayo de 2021, tuvieron su primer Ecofest en Cabarete, apoyando a artistas y músicos locales, pero también in- vitando a personas afines a conectarse y trabajar en red hacia la sostenibilidad y el cuidado personal. El evento tuvo un gran impacto positivo, mostrando al público que es posible tener eventos sin plástico de un solo uso, donde es posible crear estructuras y decoraciones hermosas con materiales reciclados.
Después de ese primer evento el equipo del Corito Sostenible decidió colaborar con la empresa internacional de reciclaje Grupo Vical, comenzando con un programa de separación, recolección y reciclaje de vidrio en Cabarete. Parte del proyecto también incluye impartir talleres de ed- ucación ambiental a niños de colegios públicos y privados y a población vulnerable.
En el segundo Ecofest en Cabarete que tuvo fecha en Oc- tubre 2021, se crearon hermosas estructuras con mate- riales reciclados como tipis y la tarima que fueron con- struidos todos artesanalmente con plásticos reciclados de invernadero y con bambú de origen sostenible de una granja local. En este fantástico escenario se reunieron bandas locales y DJ de toda la isla. Otra innovación respecto al primer festi- val fue tener baños compostables, que fueron construidos siempre por nuestro equipo de estructuras y decoración.
El 22 de abril, Día de la Tierra, Corito Sostenible en colab- oración con iniciativas locales como Sinay Arts, Kibayo Hostal y Help me to help, organizaron una limpieza de pla- ya y río en La Boca de Cabarete. Esa iniciativa con el nombre de “Clean and dance it up” reunió a más de 150 personas, locales y extranjeros que en tres horas recogieron 1 tonelada de residuos, haciendo seguro de que 900 kg fueran directamente a su reciclaje evitando que llegaran al vertedero local.
Nuestra parte favorita de este evento fue ver cómo la co- munidad se reunió y después de la limpieza, todos bailar- on al ritmo de música electrónica alrededor de montañas de basura. ¿Qué mejor manera de crear conciencia que a través de una fiesta?
#ECOFESTRD en Santo Domingo
Corito Sostenible is a unique, recreational, low environ- mental impact platform and events that connect sustain- able tourism, ecological initiatives, diverse local craft, and artistic manifestations. It proposes to educate on the pro- tection of the environment, the benefits of developing a circular economy, and the use of natural methods to care for the body care, mind, and soul. Its mission is to moti- vate people to consider a more sustainable life and raise awareness through low environmental impact events, pro- moting more outstanding care for our environment.
They were founded by a group of 4 young people living in the surf town of Cabarete on the north coast of the Dominican Republic during the pandemic of COVID-19. They believed that the pandemic not only had created a positive shift in the general mindsets towards living more sustainably, boosting more and more initiatives proposing eco-friendly and locally sources solutions to the climate crisis but had mainly affected musicians, artists, and ar- tisans all over the world who were desperate to get back out there.
In May 2021, they had their first Ecofest in Cabarete, sup- porting local artists and musicians and inviting like-mind- ed people to connect and network towards sustainability and self-care. The event had a tremendous positive im- pact, showing the crowd that it is possible to have events with no single-use plastic and upcycling most of all the decor.
After that first event, the team had the initiative and col- laboration with the international recycling company Gru- po Vical to implement a separation, collection, and recy- cling glass initiative in Cabarete. Part of the project also includes giving workshops about environmental education to kids in public and private schools and vulnerable pop- ulations.
In October 2021, they had their 2nd Ecofest in Cabarete, bringing more local live bands and DJs from around the is- land together to create beautiful structures with upcycling materials such as Teepees with recycled greenhouse plas- tics or a stage made from sustainably sourced bamboo from a local farm.
This year during Earth Day- the 22nd of April 2022- they co-organized a beach clean-up at La Boca beach, where the river meets the ocean, in Cabarete with a concept called “Clean and Dance it up.”
Corito Sostenible, in collaboration this time with local ini- tiatives like Sinay Arts, Kibayo Hostal, and Help me to Help, brought together more than 150 people (locals and tourists) to help clean the beach, and within 3 hours, they collected 1 ton of waste, making sure that 900kg of it went straight for recycling avoiding it to reach the local land- fill. Our favourite part of this event was seeing how the community got together, and after the clean-up, every- body danced to excellent house music around mountains of garbage. What better way to create consciousness than through a party?
