Prof. Dr. Harald Lesch is Hat Wearer of the Year 2021

especially when it comes to UV protection and sustainability.” During the award presentation

at the university observatory in Munich where he works, Prof. Dr. Lesch said: “I like to go through life well-protected. When I'm out filming somewhere in the world for Terra X, I'm really happy when my head, which only has hair around the edges, is covered well and safely from UV rays by a nice hat. And I can feel good – I don't want to go out of the house without a hat. Put more hats on your heads – it is worth it. Thank you for the award!"

Since 2013, the members and supplier partners of the GDH have been nominating prominent people who like to wear hats and caps as part of their style. The Golden Hat award is presented annually on November 25 as part of ‘International Hat Day’ (St Catherine’s Day). Prof. Dr. Harald Lesch becomes the ninth winner of the award and follows notable hat wearers such as Horst Lichter, Johannes Oerding and Jan Josef Liefers.

Ann Morse-Brown 1945 - 2021

As from January 1st this year, Anniek van Aert is acting as sales agent in the Benelux countries for various brands of ladies' hats and small leather goods. Operating from 's-Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands, her portfolio includes Mayser, Alfonso d'Este, Bisenzio and MGM Design.

New headwear agent in Benelux

Anniek van Aert studied at the London College of Fashion, where her experience in the area of fashion and headwear as well her own wearing of hats really started. She has a passion for hats in general and believes the world would look a lot nicer if people would 'dress up' more with an appropriate hat or headpiece!

Ann Morse-Brown passed away in October 2021 after a short spell in hospital. In 2000, together with her husband Guy (both pictured above), Ann opened the Wombourne School of Millinery in England, which saw hundreds of students enrol and pass through its doors. Inspiring many with her ‘can-do’ attitude and warm encouragement, many of the students went on to set up their own successful millinery businesses. Although the school closed in 2007, Ann documented the classes and produced a wide range of e-books for How2hats as well as launching the e-magazine HATalk. These, along with DVDs, gave students the opportunity to try their hand at making hats from their kitchen table. Ann’s family said: “As a Christian, Ann opened her family home to many international students and people from all walks of life who needed a safe haven for a season. Many students of the Wombourne School of Millinery also enjoyed her hospitality. Her life touched many lives, and she will be sorely missed by her husband and seven children and their families.”
