Luisa Manea Floribunda Floribunda is a gown created by Cairns-based designer Luisa Manea, who created the garment drawing on a vast range of textile skills including sewing, appliquéing and embroidery. “This gown is more than a dress; I want to inspire by being a master craftsperson. Over the decades I have acquired many skills and have
put every one of them to good use in this gown.” Luisa worked to create the piece from scraps in her workroom and chopped up a few clothes from her household that were no longer in use. The bold gown was paired with black accessories including a birdcage veil held on a satin-wrapped headband.

Mark Blake Mark Blake sourced these vibrant yellow and white pleated ex-designer fabrics, taking the opportunity to give the material a second life and keep the item out of landfill to be reused to reduce waste. He meticulously made sure the pleats would line up and sit perfectly with each other drawing the eye to the fabric. “I wanted a bright, upbeat and bold design for the return to Flemington this year.” The dress was paired with a white boater trimmed with a textured ribbon and a selection of flowers in tones of pinks and oranges to complement the dress’s yellow colour.
