If the pattern at the top is not nicely round, you have pulled it wrong or not done the centre back correctly. If you can, pin right up to the middle.

With all the pins in place, trim off the veiling just above the diamonds. Pin the final bits to the top of the ball...

and steam the veiling one more time. Put the ball on the masking tape stand to let it cool off.


Tip!


If you paint the polystyrene ball a couple of times with


water-based household paint, you don’t need to wrap the ball in cling film – this both


saves money and is better for the environment.

Next, spray the veiling with hairspray to give it more body. Follow the veiling lines diagonally while spraying.

When the veiling has dried, use a bone to separate it from the clingfilm before you take it off the ball.

Try to pull the clingfilm off the ball together with the veiling. Next, carefully separate the clingfilm from the veiling.

Place the veiling around a doll head with the seam at the centre back. Pull a thread through the holes...

and through the diamonds to gather the top together. Make a knot every few stitches to hold it in place.

You can leave the veiling as it is, or adorn it with feathers, for example. Put the point of your scissors into one of the feathers and cut off a V-shape.

You can get 3 or 4 V’s out of one feather, before the spine becomes too thick. Cut the ends of the V into the shape you want.
