Myer Fashions on your Front Lawn, hosted by the Victoria Racing Club for Melbourne Cup Week, returned in 2021 as a virtual event to celebrate the joy of dressing up and to embrace a love for fashion. Some racegoers were able to attend the race days trackside. However, keeping the digital format allowed for all to take part in the celebrations.

awarded first place with a piece constructed from 450 hand-cut feathers titled ‘Forever Bound’. Belinda said: “The inspiration came from feelings of being confined or ‘caged in’ during the past year of lockdowns and lockouts. Further to this, just like a bow that can be undone, is the pending feeling of release once we are freed from Covid restrictions.” Runner-up was Angie

Jackman, presenting a piece that reinterpreted a mandala: “The hat was designed so that the various patterns would alternate as the hat was viewed from different angles, much like a rotating kaleidoscope.” Carole Maher of The Sydney Millinery Company was second runner-up with a piece that used 450 goose nagoire feathers. “The inspiration

for this hat is a Dior brim hat I made a

couple of years ago and loved the simple design principles of repetition, direction, movement and silhouette. I wanted to take it further by using the same principles but exaggerating them.”

The ten finalists for the Millinery Award also included Enza Geddes of tHAT Millinery, Jo Maree Millinery, Lisa Hughes Millinery, Lisette Margini of Zia Pazza Headwear, Natalie Bikicki, Chantelle Westlake of Lauder Taylor Millinery, and Chris Mullane.
