CLITHEROE’S perform ances just keep on getting bet ter as they keep on answering the questions asked of them by manager Tommy Lawson. Tuesday night’s compre

hensive 4-1 win away at Kendal Town addressed a lot of issues created by Sat urday’s 3-1 defeat to Gresley Rovers, and the Blues boss was impressed by the way his side reacted. As a result, Clitheroe are

now fifth in the league and Lawson could not be more pleased: “We’ve had per formances close to that,'but Tuesday at Kendal was the

best I’ve seen since I’ve been at Clitheroe. “To be away from home

against a team financially and physically able to chal lenge for the title, and get a result like that, was fantas tic.

“I am delighted with the

win, but it was the way we won as it was not an easy performance. “We knew it would be a

battle and that players like ex-Preston North End strik er Lee Ashcroft would be a handful. “But the way the lads dealt with experienced Uni-

Bond players of that stan- dard was admirable.

He added: “Things are

falling into place. “Craig Sargeson is rejuve

nated, his confidence is back and his goals are a bonus. “Everyone wants to see

goals that’s why you go to watch football so when Craig and Gary Jackson get into the channels, you know they’re going to do well and it’s good to see both of them on the leading goalscorers chart. “There are some good

relationships forming in all areas of the pitch. “Ryan Parr is one of our

most consistent performers and his partnership with Ian Kearney in the centre of defence has been the key to what we want to achieve.

“Neil Reynolds and Paul

Stansfield’s understanding with Craig and Simon Gar ner is developing too. “Full-backs Russell Clark

and Tom Hardwick are rolling up their sleeves. “Both of them had their

best game on Tuesday, I was really pleased for them as you could see that Tom was over the moon with his per formance, and although it was hard on Peter Collinge, I thought Tuesday was the right time for him to step aside for Andy Paxton.” Turning his attention to

the next two games, Lawson is without Parr for Satur day’s trip to Kidsgrove Ath letic as he is serving a one- match suspension, but he is

BOTH of Clitheroe’s lead ing cricket clubs have been awarded Clubmark accred itation in recognition of their efforts towards child welfare protection and development of junior cricket. Ribblesdale Wanderers

were the first club in the borough to be acknowl edged, quickly followed by Clitheroe, and both have undergone the necessary training and shown the aptitude to be deemed safe, effective and child-friendly clubs by the Lancashire Cricket Board. Clubmark is a Sport

England initiative that recognises enterprise in establishing quality coach ing and safe surroundings for boys and girls in ama teur sport - and both Clitheroe and Ribblesdale have gained top marks for the quality of service they provide local youngsters.
