AN impressive 72-mile spon sored walk was completed by members of the Ribble Valley Radio Group. Raising more than £1,000 for the
community radio station, the group of 20 walked the entire length of the Ribble Way over three days. Starting from Longton, in Pre
ston, the group spent their first night in Ribchester, after walking 22-miles. Their second night was spent in Gisburn, before finishing at Ribblehead. Joined by walkers along the way,
chairman of the group, Mr Steve Suttie, praised all those involved who helped make the event a huge success. “ I am absolutely delighted with
everybody connected with the event,” he said. “ The walkers who showed

over the coming seasons, but success comes at a price. Players earn barely enough to cover travelling expenses, but to keep the team together and continue to rise to higher leagues, the need for more finance becomes
apparent. Crowd attendance on Saturdays is some
thing that could improve. Just over 200 have been attending home
games and we hope to double that over the coming weeks (there were only 170 at last

Tuesday night’s game). I appreciate that people go to Blackburn, Burnley, Manches ter and Merseyside to watch their teams, but for those who don’t, why not spend £6 and come and cheer on the team, and bring the kids too - all will be made welcome. Many local companies donate monies to
the club by several means and this goes greatly towards the club keeping afloat. For very little money, companies can advertise via hoardings, the programme, match and ball sponsorship. On the fund-raising side, this is where
Why are there no
prosecutions? EVERY day on my visits to Clitheroe and around the Ribble Valley, I must see at least a dozen people of all types, such as van drivers, mothers in 4 x 4s, young people on their way to work and many others, all driving one handed with impunity and with a mobile telephone held against their ear. This widespread and illegal practice is
evident even at roundabouts, road junc tions and bridges in the town, and in coun try lanes in surrounding areas, where I have experienced a few near collisions - and yet I have not seen a single report in your paper of any person being stopped or penalised. I find it hard to understand how the
police and local regulatory authorities can fail to spot and take action for such danger ous activity. After all, the eagle-eyed park ing wardens in Clitheroe seem to have no problem in being able to spot a car parked innocuously just over a yellow line, or a ticket just over the time limit!

this piece of history? I AM researching Bodenham family history and wonder if any of your readers might be able to help. I am seeking John Bodenham, who in
1881 was living in Brook Street, Clitheroe. He was born in Wandsworth, London, in 1838. He married Frances Berry in 1874 and had a son, Harry. By 1883 he was a widower living in Brownlow Street, Clitheroe, when he married Margaret Simp son of Back Commons, Clitheroe. My ivife is a descendant of John Boden-
ham's father. His grandfather was a Francis ■ Bodenham, transported for bigamy in 1815. I have a lot of information on the family to share and would dearly love to correspond with other descendants. I do hope you will be able to help.

This TllegaT act could
cost ratepayers dear FOOTPATH number 40, near Sunnyside Avenue, Billington, has, I believe, been ille gally closed. This could result in a cost to ratepayers
of perhaps thousands of pounds and, I understand, she to 12 months before settle ment. If a “ kissing gate” had never been removed this distress to many people, some elderly, who have walked this footpath for 60 to 80 years would never have ensued. Let us have some commonsense here and
replace a gate, like we have on the estate (Dale View) to field paths number 40 and 41, at a reasonable cost.
