Real family get-together as 64 Croasdells unite

DESCENDANTS of the Croasdell family met up for the first'time in Slaidburn where the name first originated. A total of 64 people, the furthest travelling from

Canada and the nearest from Whalley, met at Focus Training, Clough Bottom Farm, Bashall Eaves. Croasdell (also spelt Croasdale) family ancestors

were first recorded as living in the Waddington and Slaidburn areas. The name itself derives from nearby Croasdale

Fell and has seen many varied forms and spellings due to different branches of the family being spread throughout the world. As well as providing an opportunity for people to

re-kindle distant family relationships, the gathering enabled several Internet friends to meet up for the first time to exchange stories and compare family likeness in photographs and real life. During the gathering, descendants enjoyed tak

ing part in a quiz, hearing a presentation about the name and its origins, as well as studying ancestral charts. Those who attended hope to repeat the event in

the future. Our picture shows a gathering of the Croasdell

family at Focus Training, Clough Bottom Farm, Bashall Eaves. (D030905/1)

Extension thumbs up _______by Faiza Afzaal_______

PERMISSION has been grant ed for a 30-bedroomed extension, a function suite and an extended car park a t a Ribble Valley restaurant. Plans for the development at the De Tabley Arms, Ribchester Road, Clayton-le-Dale, were approved by the borough council’s planning com

mittee at its recent meeting. No objections from the parish

council or nearby residents were submitted, and planning officer Sarah Westwood recommended the scheme for approval. Her report to the Planning Com

mittee meeting read; “This propos al not only would provide additional accommodation for tourists, but also a function suite, which could double as conference facilities, there

by assisting in overcoming a defi ciency in such provision within the borough. “Given that the De Tabley is an

existing, well-established business, and that the scheme is looking to extend the number of bedrooms available for tourism use, whilst at the same time retaining employ ment opportunities, these weigh in> favour of accepting the principle of such development.”

Hunt boost for school

CLUED-UP contestants set out on a Car Trea sure Hunt organised by Abbey Gisburne Park Hospital and raised £225 for Gisburn Primary School. The cars set off from Abbey Gisburne Park

Hospital on the 14.5-mile treasure hunt, culmi nating up at the White Bull Hotel, Gisburn, for a pie and peas supper, prizegiving and a draw. The overall winners were the "Pilko Moun

taineers", with a booby prize going to "Da Gangsters". Draw prizes were mostly donated by local companies, including Lindley Pate, El Beuch, Farmhouse Fayre, The White Bull Hotel, Abbey Gisburne Park and Phoneworks.
