A SATIRICAL comedy sketch show is heading to the Ribble Valley. “From Here To Absurdity” can be seen
at St Mary’s Centre, on Saturday. Written by and starring Richard Kelly,
a politics lecturer and experienced writer, the 90-minute show features original sketches and adapted songs, focusing on the assorted idiocies of everyday life. Kelly, who has written and performed
sketches alongside mimic Alastair McGowan, has also written pieces for Private Eye, the Spectator and the Guardian. Joined on stage by Ashley Hern, a for
mer member of the Oxford University Revue group and Caroline Major, who performed in the satirical revue, Not The Footlights, he says the show includes, "political correctness, prattish ramblers, cold-call telephone salesmen, vapid films from the Disney Corporation, birth, mar riage, divorce and death”. While those who enjoy the music of
Elvis, Blondie and Tammy Wynette will also be promised something amusing. The group, who have been touring
some of Britain’s hottest comedy venues, performed the show at the 2004 Edin burgh Fringe and have won awards at the Buxton and Chester Comedy Festivals. So if you fancy live comedy that is a bit
different to stand-up and enjoy a show that recalls the spirit of Peter Cook and Beyond The Fringe, then this is the show for you. Starting at 7-30 p.m., tickets are £7.50
(£6.50 concessions). Further details are available from 07786 280778 and
