WHEN it comes to fund­ raising ideas, Chatburn’s Manor House Residential Home is ahead of the rest! And when management and


staff received a plea from the East Lancashire Hospice asking for support with June’s Hospice Awareness Campaign, they quickly got their heads together to think of ideas to help the Blackburn-based charity. Throughout the month of


June they were busy selling sun­ flower merchandise and held a “tea @ three” party for resi­ dents, their families and chil­ dren from Chatburn Pre- School. They were also encouraged to


get into the swing of things by dressing up in the hospice care campaign’s colours of bright yellow. Fund-raiser Harry Grayson made a guest appear­ ance on the day to say thank you for the support. One of the highlights was a


visit from a mobile zoo featur­ ing creatures and birds as small as beetles, gradually increasing in size to lizards and owls, with the star of the show a 12 ft. python. Staff, residents and


children were encouraged to stroke and handle the sped mens. Janet Harrison, of the Manor


House, said: “We decided to support the hospice campaign as it is such a worthwhile local cause providing a much needed community service to East Lancashire. ■ “This year we decided to


include the children from pre­ school and everybody including the residents and staff really got behind the initiative because people want to help, and we hoped to raise as much as possible for the hospice”. The hospice, based in Park
