FOUR friends from Stony- hurst College are taking part in an historic occasion, celebrating Mass in Ger many with the new Pope Benedict XVI to mark World Youth Day 2005. Eliza Warrilow (17), her

brother Ben (14), Victoria Robinson (17) and Philip Leonard (15) are attending the 20th World Youth Day in Cologne this week. World Youth Day is a week

long gathering from Tuesday to Sunday organised by the

Catholic Church. I t brings together hundreds of thou sands of young people from all over the world every two or three years. The Pope will con clude the event by celebrating Mass before 800,000 young pilgrims. It will be the Pope’s first official engagement out side the Vatican. As pilgrims, the pupils’ spir

itual journey will be to Cologne where, in the great cathedral, are honoured the relics of the Magi, the Wise Men from the East who fol lowed the star which led them

Staff’s big swim for Breast Cancer UK

SWIMMING 480 lengths is nothing to staff at a Ribble Valley hotel - if it means raising money for Breast Cancer UK. Eight super-fit members of staff at the

Clarion Hotel and Foxfields Restaurant, Billington, made a splash for charity by rais ing over £1,000 by tackling a sponsored swim. The generous team completed 480 lengths in

three hours. The charity challenge was organised by

manager, Mrs Lydia Forshaw. Members that took part in the event

included, Gererd Moreno, Amie Richardson, Rachel Moody, Jacky Edwards, Deborah Nicholson, Beverley Gayle, Rebecca Maiti and Lydia Forshaw. Our picture shows staff members making a splash for charity. (G060805/1)
