Clitheroe 22 Lostock 5
CLITHEROE complet ed their league campaign with a comfortable victo ry over Lostock to leave themselves in the same finishing position as last
season. An abundance of backs,
but a shortage of forwards seemed to be the selection poser for skipper Roger Holmes, but for once Lady Luck was kind to the locals as second rower Alan Nuttall managed to complete his 300-mile dash in time for kick-off. Conditions underfoot were

Locals unlucky New £500 pool knockout
LITHEROE A just failed to reach the last 32 in the
Finals in Great Yarmouth. Even without six regular
players they demolished Coventry 11-7, before drawing 9-9 with group winners Nuneaton. Nuneaton went through by
virtue of beating Covetry 12-6 - one frame better than Clitheroe. The team travelled home somewhat disappointed, but
can hold their heads high. In the Clitheroe Pool
League, Starkies Sharks are
close to retaining their Premier League title after a 7-5 win over White Hart A. They now need 12 points from the remaining two games
to make sure. Low Moor are favourites for
runners-up spot. Commercial A are on target
for the Premiership after a 10-2 win over nearest rivas Pendle V in the First Division. They only require seven
points from two games for the title.
However, the Stork B-Dog
Music Bar game was aban doned due to an incident involv ing members of the Dog team. The league committee will
decide the penalty at an emer gency meeting tonight at the De Lacy, Whalley, starting at 7 p.m. All committee must be present. Unbeaten St Peter’s put paid
to their fierce rivals Three Mill stones in the Second Division, while Starkies A are on course for second spot. Castle B are runaway Third
Division leaders, and need 12 points for the championship. Waggon and Horses B top
the Fourth Division by a point after a 7-5 win over Victoria, who also bore title ambitions. Waggon take on Station
Hotel in a fortnight in what looks a title decider. O The Ladies' Cup Final will be between Legion and Castle
near perfect, and with Chris Bosonnet adding a dash of sophistication at fly-half, Clitheroe set off at a fine pace. An early foray into
Lostock territory resulted in a desperate clearing kick straight into the welcoming arms of Nuttall. He charged back up field
and, with the help of Tony Dubowski and Paddy McAloone, secured posses sion five metres from the try
line. Up stepped powerhouse
wingman Phil Parker to take the ball from the base of the ruck and power over for the
first try. Clitheroe dominated for
much of the next 20 minutes. Scrum-half Malcolm Heanan used a good tactical kicking game to keep the vis itors in their own half, and Holmes continued in his rich vein of try-scoring with his sixth of the season. A trio of well-struck

Chatburn Reserves 7 Rolls-Royce 0
THE Reserves recorded their best result of the season with this
emphatic scoreline. Kicking up the slope in the first half,
the home side found it hard work with the Rolls keeper standing in their way and producing superb saves to deny Bartlett and Lakin. The breakthrough came 10 minutes
before the break when Gaskell and Bartlett combined for the opening goal with the lat ter applying the finishing touch.
Rolls-Royce must have wondered
what had hit them in the second half as the home team went crazy, hitting six
without reply. Gaskell got the first of his four, lob
bing the keeper from 20 yards. His sec ond was goal poaching at its best and the hat-trick was completed after a one- two with Bartlett. Not to be outdone, Bartlett claimed
his second with a mis-kick that left the Rolls keeper stranded. Booth thought he had scored the sixth but Gaskell’s late touch saw him claim his fourth.

Bartlett notched his hat-trick and
number seven with a 25-yard shot that screamed into the net. The reserves previously recorded the
double over Mill Hill St Peter’s with a fine team performance, winning 4-0. The Blackburn keeper had made sev

and rounded the keeper to double the advantage before half-time. Gaskell added his second after the break, before Cliffe sealed the points.
Ribchester lose out to title rivals
Goodshaw 2 Ribchester 0
RIBCHESTER’S 2-1 vic tory over Earby in mid week set up this top-of- the-table clash against Goodshaw with the win ners favourites for the title. Against driving rain in the
first half, Ribchester coped well with the onslaught and created two excellent chances to open the scoring. Goodshaw pushed men for
ward in search of the opener, but Hacking’s goal was well protected by Rhodes and Anderton.
With Ribchester content
to soak up the pressure they looked strong enough to get through to the interval with out conceding, but Goodshaw took the lead 10 minutes before half-time. A deep cross from the right
was cleared by Mallott only for the follow-up to be rammed into the bottom comer. Goodshaw increased their lead in the second half with a
sweeping move but to their credit, Ribchester battled with Lofthouse and Anderton creating openings, but it was too little, too late.
