Music by the world’s greatest composer will be much played
IN this millennium year we celebrate not only 2000 years of history, but we also remember the 250th anniversary of the death of Johann Sebast
ian Bach, the world's greatest composer. Even though his music
performance of Bach's "Pre lude and Fugue in E Flat" was appreciated at the 295th recital of the Clitheroe Parish Church Organ Society. Other major works for organ included the "Introduction and Pas- sacaglia" of Sir Walter Alcock, a transcription of Elgar's "Chanson de Matin", Norman Cocker's "Tuba Tune^' and three movements from Widor's "Symphonie V", concluding, of course, with the famous Toccata. was seldom heard during the century following his death, almost every organ recital throughout the land will this year contain at least one of his works. Gary Desmond's splendid
skill and panache which will long be remembered. A pity, therefore, to see so
appearing from the school curriculum? The latest Dic tionary of Organ Com-
posers.lists 10,000 names; you can be sure that recital ists will perform only the best of these! The next is on Saturday, May 13th at 7-30 p.m., and will be given by Ian Hare, organist to the University of Lancaster.

guished organists. How else are they to appreciate good music now that it is fast dis
few young people in the audience. I make a plea to all parents to bring their children to hear future recitals so that they may hear music of the great masters played by distin
aspects of the festival. A trail throughout the school allowed the children to
main entrance would mean that it was safer, overcoming earlier objections from officials. Councillors followed the recommendation from officers
to approve the plan, subject to conditions covering vari ous points. These include access, landscaping, parking and a ban on the use of artificial light without specific permis sion. The committee was told that the farm's dairy herd was
not big enough to be viable and diversification into a livery business was appropriate for the site.
