FCSI EF UPDATE
Getting back to business H
osting our first face-to-face meeting in over two years at the headquarters of Champion Industries in Winston- Salem, North Carolina was so exciting. We reviewed the existing by-laws and made some decisions on the FCSI Educational Foundation (EF) website. The FCSI EF board also spent time working on potential educational opportunities that could have a wonderful impact on the entire FCSI organization. It is still a little early to present to you, but please stay tuned to find out more about the FCSI EF. We continue work to fulfil the EF mission statement; we still have lots to do and are planning to get together in Montreal [for the FCSI The Americas 2022 conference]. The pandemic and the subsequent
shutdown of businesses, meetings, fundraisers, etc has prompted the Foundation board to re-examine the focus and direction of the organization. The board will be discussing several new initiatives as part of its time together in Greensboro. We hope to be able to share

details of these plans in the next issue of Foodservice Consultant.

meetings become more available, one of the largest fundraisers supporting the Educational Foundation was back online this summer. The Birchfield Jacobs Foodsystems Annual Golf Scramble and Crab Feast took place in August in Queenstown, Maryland. This was the 29th year for the event, which provides scholarship and conference monies for hospitality, restaurant and foodservice management students. To date, contributions have totaled over $347,000. I had the pleasure of once again participating in this event. The weather was great, the turnout was excellent and we raised a lot of money for a worthy cause. People were so happy to be gathering in person, networking and having fun. It was a reminder of the way life used to be before the pandemic. Our thanks to the folks at Birchfield-

the support of donors like BJF that the Foundation is able to continue its mission. The last two years have been a
challenge for everyone, and we continue to see issues arise in our industry. The factories have been dealing with supply chain shortages and many struggle with a shortfall of labor. The consultant community is extremely busy with projects that have been on hold, now moving forward. The dealer community is working through the largest backlog of business in years and working with factories to tackle the lead times and equipment shortages. The key to success is working together and communicating with all parties the good news and the bad and providing solutions to the project. The foodservice industry has seen an unprecedented number of issues over the last 24 months, but it will persevere.
