Nutraceuticals optimised with innovative delivery

In the dynamic landscape of wellness and healthcare, Gencor Pacifi c stands at the forefront of innovation, transforming how pharmaceutical and nutraceutical ingredients are delivered and unlocking the potential of their benefi ts like never before.

A

dvanced delivery systems and innovations such as micelles, liposomes, nano-emulsions, and solid lipid particles have been used in the pharmaceutical industry for years. They are now gaining interest in the nutraceutical space. These technologies optimise the bioavailability of poorly dispersed and absorbed ingredients. In fact, one of the most critical properties of dietary supplements is their absorption; without them, efficacy is strongly reduced. The body absorbs many beneficial nutrients poorly, so they often require large doses to achieve optimum benefits. Consumers today are seeking qualified ingredients with high efficacy. Through the digestive process, nutrients are absorbed into the bloodstream from the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) to exert their effects throughout the body. Micelles are structures formed naturally in the human GI tract to enable the absorption of lipophilic ingredients. They allow the nutrient to emulsify in watery environments such as the GI tract,

increasing the surface area to impact absorption positively.

Novel delivery systems are designed to improve the efficacy of nutrients by optimising absorption to target delivery and enhance stability. One example is AquaCelle, a customisable, self-micro-emulsifying delivery system (SMEDS). It has been specifically designed and clinically proven to optimise the bioavailability of oily lipophilic active ingredients such as Ubiquinol, Omega- 3s, Lutein, and Resveratrol while maintaining product stability. AquaCelle has been clinically shown to improve bioavailability by up to 700%.

Optimising bioavailability Scientifically proven, LipiSperse is an advanced cold water dispersion technology (CWD) that allows solid/powder lipophilic active ingredients such as Curcumin, Resveratrol, Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA), and Quercetin, which otherwise have relatively low bioavailability and poor solubility in water, to be easily dispersed in cold water, thereby increasing their

bioavailability and uptake in the body. LipiSperse’s superior performance means only 10% LipiSperse is required with an impressive 90% active load, the most significant active/nutrient ratio in a water- dispersible formulation.

Liposomes are another delivery system gaining momentum among formulators and brand companies in the nutraceutical space. They offer a targeted nutrient delivery approach. They are tiny, engineered structures with a lipid bilayer that can encapsulate hydrophilic and lipophilic ingredients within their structure. This allows them to pass through the various cells and land directly into the bloodstream, avoiding the stomach’s harsh environment and first-pass metabolism by the liver to deliver their high payload. Many liposomal supplements are nothing more than phospholipid emulsions, which cannot offer the actual absorption benefits of genuine liposomal formulations. PlexoZome liposomes are validated through Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and Cryo-TEM imaging, Zeta potential, and Dynamic Laser-Light Scattering testing.

Formulators must understand the bioavailability of ingredients to develop effective and safe products. When designing a customised formulation, factors that maximise therapeutic outcomes while minimizing potential risk factors, such as absorption efficiency, dosage optimisation, safety, and cost-effectiveness, must all be considered. The clever use of delivery systems can increase bioavailability and stability or open new and versatile format options while reducing the required dosage and maintaining efficacy. 
