ACTS

The class expresses sympathy to Billie Mancin Little on the death of her husband,

Norris, who passed away Oct. 1, 2022. They had been married for 70 years. Norris loved Queens as much as Billie.

Suzanne Ross invited other regional outdoor painters to document landscapes, rivers and farms in

Franklin County, Virginia, while basing their activities out of The Claiborne House in Rocky Mount. The week before Mother’s Day 2022 proved perfect. The results were displayed at the October opening of the Franklin County Folklife Festival at Ferrum College Blue Ridge Institute & Museum. The new group is called the Southwest Virginia Plein Air Painters of America and their show will be an annual exhibition.

For the past five and a half years, Sue Reid Terrell and her husband, Bill, have been happy residents of Sharon Towers in Charlote. Just recently, Bill moved to the health care area due to his knees no longer allowing him to walk. However, with the help of his scooter, he still joins Sue in the dining room for the evening meals — something they both enjoy!

It was fun for Adelaide Anderson Davis and Harriet Sloop Gilbert to have lunch together at

the Cypress of Charlote this past March 3. Harriet and her

husband, Johnny, had come to visit Johnny's brother Pressly and his wife, Jane, who now live at the Cypress, too.

Gail Nichols (Presson) moved to Sarasota, Florida, in 2020 to live near her daughter Dr. Tina Presson Nowak. She enjoys creating art and atending many live theater performances.

Virginia Bopp Springer’s grandson Davis Welch and his spouse, Alyssa, just delivered Henry, her

first great-grandson. Last year, Virginia was a delegate to the North Carolina State Daughters of the American Revolution Convention in Raleigh.

Angela Williams takes breaks from her coaching clients by traveling with tennis buddies. She took

a fun recent trip to Portugal — warning, no flat surfaces! The local food and music were super.

"Reflections on Captivity," writen by Porter Halyburton (Davidson College ’63), husband of

Marty Duerson Halyburton, was published by the Naval Institute Press on Nov. 15, 2022. The book includes litle-known stories, prison poetry and lessons learned during Porter's seven and a half years in Prisoner of War camps in North Vietnam.

Bonnie Burgess Neely leſt Queens in 1964 to marry her Texan, Bill, and moved to Dallas to graduate from Southern Methodist University as a journalist. Her latest book, with five-star reviews everywhere, was just released by Newman Springs Publishers. She hopes readers will get many laughs and happy armchair travels as they read it. "Real Ventures: Did We Really Do That?!!" can be found on Amazon, iTunes, and Barnes & Noble. It tells the story about their 47 years of RV holidays in nine countries and all over the U.S., equal to 25 times around the equator!

In March, Ann Shaffer Bagwell and her husband, Fred, looked forward to atending the inauguration

of their son-in-law Doug Hicks as president of Davidson College. Their daughter, Catherine, is a professor of psychology. Catherine and Doug’s son, Noah, is a freshman at Cal Tech. Their daughter, Ada, is a high school sophomore. Ann and Fred’s son, Todd, and family in Richmond were also planning to join in the festivities at Davidson.

Judy Wood of Fort Worth was appointed to the Tarrant County Historical Commission

in January. A member of the North Texas Archeological Society, she collaborates with preservationists and archaeologists in both groups on projects that dovetail with

Bonnie Burgess Neely ’64 with her recently released book .
