FACULTY & STAFF ACHIEVEMENTS

New Appointments Announced at Queens Leaders Will Further Advance the University's Strategic Priorities

Adrian Bird, Ph.D., was named university chaplain aſter serving as interim chaplain since September 2022. Bird will continue his journey alongside students, faculty and staff to create a thriving community and foster a sense of belonging at Belk Chapel and beyond. He’ll also use his extensive interfaith experience to work closely with student groups to help coordinate and celebrate diverse cultural and religious events on campus. “I want students to know that Belk Chapel is a safe and brave space where students can come to regain balance between their mind, body and spirit — a place where they can always find spiritual nourishment," said Bird.

Mat Packey, a valued member of the Queens leadership team for more than a decade, will be taking on an expanded role at the university. Packey had recently taken on

the role of associate vice president for sustainability and institutional planning. Aſter the June departure of Mary Alice Boyd, Packey also stepped into the interim CFO role. In this role, Packey will maintain oversight of the university’s sustainability work as we continue to make important progress in this area. Packey will help guide Queens’

efforts to transform into a greener, more sustainable campus — a priority laid out in the university’s Strategic Framework. “As an institute of higher education,

we have a responsibility to lead the global sustainability transformation,” said Packey. “It’s our job to create leaders who will pave the way for a thriving, equitable and ecologically healthy world.”
