LEVC’S GUIDE TO KEEPING A TX ELECTRIC TAXI IN PEAK CONDITION DURING LOCKDOWN

•With cab drivers spending less time on the road, LEVC has created a guide on how to keep a TX electric taxi in optimum condition.

• Many LEVC autho- rised repairers are still open with pri- ority given to essential service vehicles and key workers.

Ansty, 29 April 2020 – With a continued period of lockdown due to the Covid-19 outbreak, LEVC has created a guide to help cab drivers maintain their TX electric taxi’s condi- tion while the vehicle is not being driven. To ensure

the TX operates to its optimum effi- ciency for essential travel, there are sev- eral steps drivers can follow that require little effort while maintaining the vehicle’s ser- viceability:

Maintain the vehi- cle’s battery To build up sufficient charge in the vehi- cle's 12-volt battery, it is recommended to turn the TX on to initiate ‘Drive’ mode - ensuring that the parking brake is applied, and the gear selection is in neutral. It is then recommended that the vehicle is left in “Driving mode” for a minimum of 15 min- utes; during this time the 12-volt battery is

being charged by the High Voltage (HV) battery. No other operator input is required and the Range Extender does not need to be running. To ensure that the battery remains in optimum condition, this proce- dure should be completed every ten days.

Furthermore, if a home charge point is available for charging the HV battery, it is recom- mended that the HV battery is topped up above 75 per cent state of charge.

Check tyres To ensure the TX’s tyres remain inflated and avoid potential flat spots develop-

FOUR LEEDS MEN’S TRIP TO LAKE DISTRICT IN ‘SECRET’ TAXI FOILED

A plan by four Leeds men to go to the Lake District in a taxi at 1am was foiled by police on Sunday 12 April. While the tale may have seemed like the start of a joke, the group weren’t laughing when they were escorted by officers back to the Lancashire border.

During the coron- avirus lockdown people have been told to stay home and only leave the house for essential things such as food and medicine. Clear- ly a trip to a National Park - closed by the authorities - was no such trip. Why the four York- shiremen tried to

cross the border from Lancashire into Cumbria in the mid- dle of the night is unclear. But Cumbria police believe the group was trying to sneak in under the cover of darkness. The Examinerlive reports that the taxi and occupants were turned around and escorted away.

ing, drivers are advised to check the tyre pressures again- st those specified in the Operator’s Hand- book and App (which can be down- loaded at: www.levc. com/txoperatorapp). It is also advised to move the vehicle back and forth every 14 days to change the point of pressure on the tyres.

Maintain brakes After extended peri- ods of non-use, it is recommended that the brakes are care- fully applied when first driven again. The brake discs may have light surface corrosion present and it is common to hear a scraping sound and feel a vibration for the first

few seconds. This is expected and nor- mal brake operation will remove this light surface corrosion.

Paint and exterior Dirt, tree sap and bird lime can dam- age exterior surfaces and it is important to wash this off to pre- vent permanent damage. Regular washing is advisable, particularly if the TX is parked under a tree or bush.

Range Extender If the vehicle is not going to be driven for a long period of time, it’s recom- mended to fill the TX’s petrol tank to full as this will reduce the likeli- hood of any condensation build-

ing up.

Vehicle service schedule and LEVC authorised repairer contact The LEVC Autho- rised Repairer network is currently running at a reduced capacity due to the restrictions currently in place.

There are

still a number of LEVC authorised repairers open with priority given to essential service vehicles and key workers. If a TX ser- vice is due and can’t be booked in at a local LEVC Autho- rised Repairer, the vehicle can continue to be used until a service slot becomes available without compromising the vehicle’s warranty.

WIRRAL TAXI DRIVER ‘SOMEHOW’ ARRIVES IN LLANRWST

A taxi driver from The Wirral who had ‘somehow’ turned up in Llanrwst

was

“shown the way back to the A55”. Those were the words of Special Constabulary Chief Inspector Neale Lewis-Jones, who came across the driver whilst out on patrol with SCI Cook.

He tweeted: “Pro- ductive 12hr shift for @NWPSpecials. SCI Cook & I, engaging, explaining and en- couraging impromp- tu visitors to return home. “Thankfully quiet on the roads of Snow- donia.” North Wales Police have

been out patrolling various

parts of North Wales to ensure that only “essential” trips are being undertaken by residents. Officers are also doing their bit to ensure that ‘social distancing’ is being carried out at all times, in accordance with instructions issued by the Gov- ernment.
