TERROR TIMES STOCKPORT TAXI DRIVER INJURED IN DOUBLE ASSAULT
Four teenage boys are in custody after a taxi driver and a takeaway delivery driver were assault- ed in Stockport last month. At 1.30am on Friday 21 February, a taxi driver was asked to pull over in Stock- port by his two pas- sengers. He stopped and four men ap- proached the car, opened the driver’s door and assaulted him. The 58-year-old driver managed to put the car into reverse and the men and passengers fled on foot with the driver’s phone. The taxi driver was left with facial
injuries but thankful- ly didn’t require hospital treatment. Later that morning at around 3.10am, a takeaway delivery driver arrived at an address in Stock- port to deliver an order. He was as- saulted by a group of men who stole his dark grey BMW and left him seriously injured on the side of the road. Thankfully, a neigh- bour found him at 5.30am and called for help. The man is in hospital in a sta- ble condition having undergone surgery. The assaults of both these men are be- lieved to be linked.
Officers from GMP’s Tactical Vehicle Inter- cept Unit caught up with the stolen BMW later in Stock- port. The offenders failed to stop, at- tempted to ram the police car and fled on foot. Following a further report of men acting suspiciously in Of- ferton shortly after 9am that morning, officers attended and two teenage boys – both aged 17 – were arrested on suspicion of robbery and attempted mur- der. They remained in custody and were interviewed by det- ectives. Following extensive
TAXI PASSENGER KNIFED IN NECK IN CLYDEBANK
A man was repeat- edly stabbed in front of a horrified taxi driver at 4.20am on 12 February. The Daily Record reports that a source close to the taxi driver, who works for Clydebank Private Hire, said the inside of the cab was left splattered in blood when the passenger was stab- bed several times around the head on Fleming Avenue, Clydebank. A source told the
Record: “The cabbie got out to remon- strate with the driver of the car in front. Then someone got out of the car, ran to the cab, opened the door and started stab- bing the passenger in the neck. There was blood every- where. The guy with the knife then off. “The cab driver is OK, just a bit shaken but wasn’t harmed.” Police sealed off a section of the road after being called to
the scene with para- medics. Forensics examined the area around the taxi which was removed by a recovery truck. A man has since appeared in court over the stabbing. James Lang, 27, made no plea when he appeared at Dum- barton Sheriff Court charged with assault to severe injury and permanent disfigure- ment following the al-leged incident. He was remanded in custody.
enquiries including forensic analysis of the BMW, a further two teenage boys – both aged 16 – were arrested on Sunday 23 February on sus- picion of robbery and attempted mur- der. They also
remain in custody for questioning. DI Melanie Johnson of GMP’s Stockport district said: “Thank- fully both men are expected to make a full recovery but are shaken by what hap- pened. They were
simply doing their job and no-one should ever be sub- jected to this kind of attack. “We believe that both of these inci- dents are linked our investigation is very much ongoing.”
DRIVER DRAGGED FROM CAR AND ROBBED IN MIDDLESBROUGH
Police are appealing for witnesses after a taxi driver was robbed in Middles- brough. According to the Northern Echo, the incident happened
as the driver waited to pick someone up in Ainderby Way in the town just after midnight on Satur- day 8 February. A man approached the taxi and opened
the door before dragging her out of the car and taking £80 cash in a bag and running off towards Grove Hill. She suffered minor injuries.
RACIST GLASGOWWOMAN TRIED TO STAB TAXI DRIVER
A racist woman tried to stab a taxi driver after hurling abuse at him. GlasgowLive reports that Nicole O’Con- ner, 24, flew into a rage and lunged at the cabbie last Sep- tember. Mr Singh - who worked for Glasgow Private Hire - luckily escaped unhurt. O’Conner now faces a jail term after she admitted to the racially aggravated assault and stealing the taxi driver’s mobile phone. She was remanded
in custody at Glas- gow Sheriff Court pending sentencing. Mr Singh, 40, had been taking O’Con- ner and others to her home in the Possilpark. Prosecutor Mark Allan said the atmo- sphere in the car suddenly ‘changed’. “Mr Singh was told he was getting done by O’Conner and that he was getting stabbed. He was called ‘a p*** b*****d’ as other things were being said to him.” O’Conner grabbed the cabbie’s phone
before going to her home. As Mr Singh contacted his firm, she then emerged with a blade. Mr Allan added: “She walked to- wards Mr Singh and attempted to strike him with the knife. “She then struck the bodywork of his taxi, rear window and tyres.” As police officers tried to take her away, O’Conner then kicked out at PC Ross Mckinlay hit- ting him on the head. She also pleaded guilty to that assault.
