PRIVATE HIRE DRIVER ANAKH SINGH KILLED AFTER ATTACK IN WOLVERHAMPTON STREET

A 35-year-old man has been charged with murder after a Sikh private hire driver died following an assault on 30 October. Cabbie Anakh Singh, 59, suffered fatal injuries on a Wolverhampton road with medics saying: “nothing could be done” to save him. Police were called to Nine Elms Lane at 10.43am on Sunday, October 30, where two men were said to be fighting. Unofficially it has been reported that there was a dispute with a passenger over the fare and Mr Singh was sadly attacked with a knife BUT this has not been confirmed. Mr Singh was found in a critical condition and despite medic’s best efforts, he was confirmed dead at the scene. Results of a post-mortem were inconclusive, police confirmed. Detectives have since charged Tomasz Margol, from Wolver- hampton, with Mr Singh’s murder. ABC Cars, where Mr Singh worked, has set up a JustGiving page in his memory. The Wolverhampton- based firm hoped to raise £2,000 for his family but the total now stands at almost £11,600. Donations can be made here: https://bit.ly/3gIueZG The firm described Mr Singh as a “lovely, kind, hard-working family man.” A post on the JustGiving page said: “Anakh Singh, private hire driver, was at work when he lost his life. This is an awful time for his family, our thoughts are with them. The donations will go directly to Anakh’s

family to help support

them at this difficult time.” News of Mr Singh’s death is said to have devastated many and he has been praised for helping others as

part of the Sikh concept of seva, meaning selfless service. One person said: “Very sad end, he was so friendly and willing to

do

seva whenever needed.”

Another said: “RIP you were a very lovely man and it was always nice to talk to you. You will be missed.”

Det Insp Michelle Thurgood, from West Midlands Police’s CID, said: “This is an awful time for the victim’s family. We’re at the early stages of this enquiry and ask anyone who has information, to get in touch with us via the live chat facility at west- midlands.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting log 1516, of October 30.”

PHTM sends our condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Mr Singh at this tragic time.
