The principle aims of the regional sites are to promote the work and objectives of the Institute, to provide local maritime related news and to offer an enhanced local surveyor search facility. The eight regional sites have all been well optimized for search engines and are achieving high rankings in Google search.
IIMS continues to be active on social media platforms, predominantly LinkedIn. Followers of the IIMS LinkedIn channel have passed the 10,000 mark this year. A new LinkedIn monthly subscriber newsletter (open to all) was launched earlier this year and has attracted over 3,000 subscribers.

The enforced staff changes this year have presented great opportunities for Elly Bryant and Sharon Holland, both of whom have been with the business for many years. Elly has been promoted and is now running and managing the successful eCMID Accredited Vessel Inspector scheme. More details at

Sharon also took on a new role managing a range of specialist courses we run. She is responsible for organising and arranging a quarterly series of events for our eCMID community of inspectors which are usually full. New entrants are coming into the scheme all the time and there is a mandatory requirement to attend training.
In addition, Sharon has been instrumental in planning and overseeing our latest training offering, the Yacht Coatings Technical Insight course or YCTI for short. Following a couple of pilot courses, we successfully rolled this programme out earlier in the year and have conducted six courses at various European locations. The aim of the YCTI course is to give those who need to know more about coatings projects (and not just the technical paint information), without turning them into experts. The feedback we have had has been plentiful, strong and hugely positive. More information at

It is clear that there are major issues with coatings projects the world over and we are pleased to be able to play an important role in educating those who need more knowledge through an expert tutor team of the highest quality.

As aways I must reference the many people (apart from my colleagues at IIMS HQ) who keep the wheels turning smoothly – I can’t possibly name check them all.
We have a number of committees - the Certifying Authority committee, the Education committee and the Professional Assessment committee to say nothing of additional committees at branches and in the regions. All do invaluable work. Thank you. Thanks also to our Regional Directors and in country reps, all of whom do great work in spreading the word to their networks locally.
I am grateful to the company’s executive directors and the wider management board for their ongoing commitment and support, especially during 2024 which has been a turbulent year.
