As the year draws to a close, it's a good time to reflect on the dynamic landscape of our profession and the exciting developments within IIMS. From embracing new technologies to fostering the next generation of surveyors, we continue to navigate the evolving currents of the maritime world.


Investing in the Future: Expanding Our Reach


I'm delighted to share that our Professional Qualification in Commercial Ship Marine Surveying program in Bangladesh now has 11 enrolled students. This unique initiative underscores our commitment to providing world-class education and expanding our global footprint.


Furthermore, we recently held our first-ever Introduction to Marine Surveying hybrid seminar in Palma


Mallorca, attracting over 20 eager participants. This innovative approach to training highlights our dedication to cultivating the next generation of marine surveyors.


Navigating the Technological Tide: Seminars and Insights


This quarter saw me participating in several key events that emphasized the growing importance of technology in our profession. At the Mariners Trainers Guild (MTG) seminar in Mumbai, I had the opportunity to showcase the success of our IIMS Continuous Professional Development (CPD) program. It's clear that CPD, with its focus on ongoing learning and adaptation, is crucial for ensuring competency in an increasingly digital maritime world.


The Wärtsilä seminar, also held in Mumbai, provided a fascinating glimpse into the future of maritime training and simulation standards,


especially regarding decarbonisation and the use of future fuels. The event highlighted the need for advanced training solutions that keep seafarers abreast of the latest technological advancements. But it also highlighted the need to remain motivated, which can be challenging. The IMO’s ambitious initiatives to reduce shipping’s carbon footprint, while vital, come with a stark paradox. Shipping accounts for only 2-3% of global greenhouse gas emissions, yet we are expected to meet some of the most stringent environmental targets. To put this in perspective, emissions from bulk carriers alone have been reduced by nearly 5 million tonnes since early 2021. Meanwhile, global conflicts such as the ongoing Ukraine- Russia war, now joined by tensions involving Hezbollah, Israel, and Iran, see missiles and bombs exchanged daily - manufactured and supplied by some of the world’s most developed
