Careers in Senior Living Come in Many Different Forms
For anyone new to the senior living industry one thing is immediately clear. Everyone has a story about and unique personal experience that brought them here. They were researching communities for a parent who needed care. They volunteered at a community in high school and remembered how rewarding it was to serve. They wanted a job that provided them with purpose. Working in senior living is about more than just providing shelter, it is also about providing a home, and requires
people with several different sets of skills who are passionate about what they do in order to provide the best possible care. From operations and community relations, to dining and hospitality – meet some of the people who are enriching the lives of residents and find out what brought them to senior living (p. 8). In this issue, we also place a spotlight on where the industry is headed if we are to meet future staffing needs of our communities (p. 15), and we look at current industry workforce trends (p. 20) and how foodservice is an important part of a resident’s quality of life. Plus, we have included a handful of recipes sure to inspire the home chef in all of us (p. 27).
It should also be noted that great leaders who have a focused vision have
worked to shape the senior living industry and make it what it is today. We are excited to introduce a new recurring column – Women in Leadership (WIL). Learn about WIL’s initiatives, programs, and events (p. 42). On a side note, we love to hear from our members. Share what is new and noteworthy with us at
