Sarah Hoit A career social impact entre-
preneur, Sarah Hoit entered the healthcare and aging marketplace in 2007 when she co-founded Connected Living. Turning pain into passion, Hoit and fellow co-founder, Chris McWade, joined forces to build an innovative suite of technology solutions for seniors in long-term care to remain connected with their loved ones. Connected Living is a company that she ran for 15 years engaging thousands of seniors, families and staff nationwide in hundreds of senior living com- munities, that became and “essential” service during the pandemic.
Recently in 2022, following her deep passion to make an impact on Alzheimers disease, Hoit was welcomed as the Chief Social Im- pact Officer for the biotechnology organization, BioVie Inc. With the dedicated physicians and scientists at BioVie, Hoit continues her fight for the treatment of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. In addition to her role with BioVie, Hoit also is founding a non-profit organization called Social Impact Partners that is building a global coalition to combat Alzheimer’s while supporting awareness and education for caregivers.
Q. What has influenced you toward this career path? A. I learned early on how one person can make a difference and
how gratifying it is to do something you believe in every day. One of my early mentors was Al Gore, during my second year at Harvard Business School, I had an idea for National Service that I shared with him. He and President Clinton’s team asked me to accept a special assignment to write the business plan for National Service and then when the legislation passed I become a Deputy Director to launch “AmeriCorps” which has become a powerful program that has enabled over 5 million youth to serve our country over the last almost 30 years.
Q. How did your time working in politics influence the strength in your voice? A. People are always ready to tell you “no,” and I was no ex-
ception to that. I learned very quickly that you have to be the first person to believe in your voice, but you cannot be the only person. When you find something that you are passionate about, or some- thing that has never been done before, it’s up to you to make it hap- pen. If politics taught me anything, it’s that powerful ideas matter, to build bridges and consensus, and to make a difference every day.
